About the Role

Provide basic research, administrative, and program support to the UCAR Center for Ocean Leadership (COL). The Student Assistant will assist COL staff with collecting and organizing information, conducting defined research assignments, preparing basic written materials, maintaining program information, and supporting meetings, workshops, and other program activities. Work will be performed under the direction of COL staff using established procedures and task-specific guidance.

What You Will Do

Here is a brief summary of what one would expect to be generally responsible for in this role.

• Conduct basic literature, web, and document searches on assigned topics related to ocean science, ocean observing, technology, policy, and COL programs 
• Collect, organize, and summarize information from scientific, government, organizational, and other identified sources
• Assist with compiling information for briefing materials, presentations, reports, spreadsheets, and other program products
• Enter, organize, update, and maintain program, stakeholder, contact, source, and project information
• Assist with basic data collection, organization, and quality checks
• Support basic research related to ocean observing programs, emerging technologies, economic and societal benefits, and other COL priorities
• Assist with meeting and workshop preparation, including background research, participant information, materials preparation, note-taking, and follow-up documentation
• Assist staff with basic testing and documenting digital tools, including AI-enabled research and productivity tools, according to established guidance
• Perform basic administrative and program-support activities as assigned

Education and Experience (Required):

• Current enrollment, or intent to enroll in the next regular session, in an accredited secondary, postsecondary, college, university, or approved trade-school program, that has received a Certificate or Approval from the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic oral and written communication skills
• Ability to conduct basic internet, literature, and document research
• Ability to organize information clearly and accurately
• Ability to follow established procedures and written or verbal instructions
• Basic proficiency with computer and web applications

Preferred Qualifications

Hiring Hourly Rate: $23.29/hr
