Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based in United States.

This is a hands-on staff engineering role focused on leading a product squad while building critical shared foundations used across the platform.
You will own end-to-end product development, moving from database schemas and GraphQL resolvers through web and mobile interfaces.
A major focus will be authentication, permissions, notifications, billing, and reliable background workflows that support the broader product experience.
You will work within a small, senior engineering team where engineers have substantial ownership over what they build and how it ships.
The role combines technical leadership with substantial individual contribution, including architecture, coding, debugging, and delivery.
You will collaborate directly with Product, Design, and Marketing to shape solutions from the problem-definition stage through implementation.

Accountabilities:

• Lead a product squad while remaining hands-on in software development, setting direction, defining scope, establishing timelines, and keeping engineers unblocked.
• Deliver features end to end, from database schemas and GraphQL resolvers through React components and mobile screens.
• Build and maintain shared platform foundations including authentication, permissions, notifications, and billing.
• Complete and refine the React Native mobile experience to deliver a consistent standard across web and mobile products.
• Design and maintain reliable background workflows supporting scheduling, payments, integrations, and other critical operations.
• Provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, implementation, code quality, and hands-on problem solving rather than formal people management.
• Collaborate directly with Product, Design, and Marketing to define problems, shape solutions, and determine what should be built.
• Contribute across the full technology stack, taking ownership of implementation rather than relying on strict engineering-layer handoffs.
• Identify and resolve technical issues ranging from shared infrastructure and flaky tests to customer-facing bugs and data problems.
• Establish practical engineering standards that support reliable delivery without unnecessary over-engineering.
• Use AI coding agents thoughtfully to accelerate development while applying appropriate technical oversight and judgment.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of experience building production software, or 6+ years with an exceptionally strong track record.
• Strong TypeScript and React expertise, with solid software engineering fundamentals and the ability to work comfortably across the stack.
• Experience moving between backend and frontend concerns, including schemas, resolvers, components, and application screens.
• React Native or Expo experience, or demonstrated ability and willingness to develop mobile expertise quickly.
• Experience leading a small engineering team, significant technical initiative, or product development effort; formal management experience is not required.
• Strong understanding of when to use AI coding agents and when their output requires additional supervision or validation.
• Pragmatic engineering approach, with the ability to distinguish between decisions that are expensive to reverse and those that can be iterated on quickly.
• Ability to operate independently, scope work, establish quality standards, and make meaningful progress in ambiguous environments.
• Willingness to take ownership of all aspects of engineering work, including maintenance, debugging, testing, billing logic, and customer issues.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working directly with Product, Design, Marketing, and other technical stakeholders.
• Experience with the creator economy, social platforms, or content tooling is a strong plus.
• U.S.-based and authorized to work without requiring new sponsorship; visa transfers may be possible.
• Availability for core working hours overlapping with Central Time.

• Next.js, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind, and a custom Radix-based design system.
• GraphQL and Apollo, Node.js, PostgreSQL, and Drizzle.
• Stripe, Novu, and Inngest for payments, notifications, and background workflows.
• React Native and Expo for mobile development.
• Vercel and Turborepo for deployment and monorepo management.
• Vitest and Playwright for testing.
