Staff Platform Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Platform Engineer based in United States.

As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will help build and evolve the infrastructure powering a large-scale health and fitness technology platform.
You will work hands-on across cloud infrastructure, developer platforms, automation, and reliability engineering.
The role is primarily an individual contributor position, combining deep technical execution with architecture, technical leadership, and mentorship.
You will eliminate operational toil by creating self-service tooling and automated workflows that enable engineering teams to move faster independently.
Your work will span AWS, Terraform, GitHub Actions, TypeScript, AI-powered automation, observability, and production operations.
You will also help architect infrastructure for advanced systems including machine learning workflows, real-time events, and video streaming.
This is a fully remote US opportunity for an experienced platform engineering leader who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Accountabilities:

• Eliminate operational toil through automation and self-service by building reusable modules and tooling that allow engineering teams to provision services, manage deployments, and resolve issues independently.
• Maintain platform health and delivery outcomes, including ownership of incident response and participation in on-call operations.
• Advance AI-native development practices by applying modern AI-powered workflows and automation to routine platform maintenance and engineering tasks.
• Optimize cloud infrastructure costs across AWS and relevant third-party providers.
• Architect and advise engineering teams on infrastructure for novel systems, including machine learning workflows, real-time event processing, and video streaming.
• Own and continuously evolve the Terraform estate at scale, including shared modules, state management, versioning, and infrastructure migrations.
• Build and maintain internal developer platform capabilities and delivery automation using GitHub Actions, ECS, Lambda deployment patterns, and AI-powered agents.
• Own and operate core AWS platform services, including VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, CloudFront, IAM, SSO, and Secrets Manager.
• Drive reliability and operational excellence through Datadog monitoring, incident response, and participation in an on-call rotation.
• Provide technical leadership through RFCs, architecture and design reviews, code reviews, and cross-team technical influence.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to improving engineering practices without direct people-management responsibility.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in DevOps, platform engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Deep expertise with AWS, Terraform, ECS/Fargate, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong TypeScript skills with the ability to develop production-quality software and internal tooling.
• Solid understanding of AWS IAM, SSO, and observability technologies.
• Experience building or improving internal developer platforms and developer experience is preferred.
• Proficiency in Python is preferred.
• Experience building LLM-powered applications or AI agents is preferred.
• Experience implementing infrastructure and monitoring practices using Datadog-as-code is preferred.
• Familiarity with AWS Organizations, policy as code, and cloud security posture practices is preferred.
• Strong architectural thinking and the ability to make sound technical decisions across reliability, scalability, security, and cost.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and influence teams without direct authority.
• Strong collaboration, mentorship, and cross-functional communication skills.
• Comfortable balancing hands-on engineering work with architecture, technical planning, and mentoring.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without employment sponsorship.

Benefits

• Annual salary range of $155,000–$190,000 USD.
• Fully remote position within the United States.
• Approximately 75% hands-on engineering work and 25% architecture and mentorship.
