This brand new, state-of-the-art 24-bed unit is part of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and houses the only blood and marrow transplant unit in Iowa. The unit is a dynamic and fast-paced environment, rich with opportunities for both the new graduate nurse and the experienced nurse looking for new challenges. Specialized, comprehensive care is provided to adult patients with leukemia and patients undergoing transplant for multiple myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma, and other types of hematologic disorders. Caring for these patients is a holistic and dynamic process that is both challenging and stimulating. Essential to the care of these inspiring patients is our interdisciplinary team that is skilled in oncology care. Exceptional care of the oncology patient embodies excellent clinical skills intertwined with compassionate care, to achieve optimum outcomes.

This unit's vision is to provide expertise in quality patient/family-centered care for every patient, every time. Our team achieves this through competence, character, and communication. A primary responsibility of this team is to provide care that will assist the patients to cope with the physiological and psychological components of their illness. This program has been accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) since 2001, and through a multidisciplinary teamwork approach, was awarded the Silver Beacon Award for Excellence in 2016 by the American Association of Critical Care nurses (AACN).

Percent of Time: 50%25 - 90%25
Schedule: 20 - 36 hours per week. Day/Night rotating shifts, will include a weekend rotation and an every other holiday rotation.
Location: Regular salaried position located in Iowa City, Iowa
Salary: $61,782 minimum at 100%25 effort to commensurate *This does not include differentials.  Salary will vary based on years of experience and percent of effort.*

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differentials of up to $10,000 per year based on percent time

Education Required:

• An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required

Experience Required:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
• Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
• General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel

Certifications:

• Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
• Current ACLS certification is desired

Desirable Qualifications:

• Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired
• If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
• Knowledge of University policies and procedures
