OVERVIEW

JOB TITLE: Sports Medicine Assistant

LOCATION: St. Paul Campus

HOURS:  Hours will vary each week and each sport season.

PAY RATE: $16.50/hour as of 1/1/26.

This will be for the school year 2026-2027. Start date will be ASAP pending background check/required trainings.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Sports Medicine Assistant’s (SMA) responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Assistance in maintaining and managing student-athletes' medical records
• Practice/game preparation (taping, filling water coolers and bottles, game and practice prep.)
• Practice/game coverage (assist with first aid, observe practice, assist with injured student-athlete workouts, post practice/game clean-up)
• Assistance in emergency situations
• Athletic training room maintenance and cleaning
• Greet student-athletes and visitors to the athletic training room
• Off-campus travel possible but very unlikely
• Other duties as assigned
• First aid/CPR/AED Certification Required

The SMA position is a fast-paced and involved position with a minimal amount of down time during work hours.

QUALIFICATIONS

• We are seeking highly motivated undergraduate students that can function well in both supervised and unsupervised settings.
• We may prioritize individuals who are seeking a degree in sports medicine, athletic training, physical therapy or are looking for educational experience for premed or PA programs.
• We prioritize students who will use this position as a primary campus job and will be available to work with minimal conflicts.
• Due to the nature of in-season athletics schedules, weekend and weekday availability is important. We also cover practices over holiday breaks. 
• Students will need to complete compliance training in Blood Borne Pathogens and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This training will be provided by the University.

• First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (Or if not currently certified - able and willing to get certified at own cost)

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
