What You'll Do

As a Speech-Language Pathologist, you will:

• Evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on comprehensive assessments
• Establish functional baselines and measurable patient goals
• Provide patient, family, and caregiver education
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and treatment planning
• Perform video swallow studies as applicable to the department
• Screen patients for hearing-related concerns during evaluations
• Serve as a clinical resource and contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives
• Provide education and in-services for colleagues and the community

Qualifications

Required

• Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders from an accredited program
• Current Michigan Speech-Language Pathology license in good standing
• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) through ASHA
• BLS certification within three months of hire
• Current NPI number or willingness to obtain one with Bronson support
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Basic computer and mobile device proficiency

Preferred

• Previous Speech-Language Pathology experience
• Experience in acute care, outpatient rehabilitation, or both
• Experience treating adult patients with communication, cognitive, and swallowing disorders

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

• Interpret and implement referrals while evaluating patient functional status through standardized assessments and testing
• Establish treatment plans and individualized patient education
• Evaluate and treat speech, language, cognitive, communication, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders
• Develop patient-centered treatment strategies based on age, developmental status, learning style, cultural background, and functional goals
• Screen for hearing concerns as part of the evaluation process
• Establish patient goals and determine the appropriate duration of therapy services
• Facilitate participation in therapeutic activities that maximize functional independence
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, discussions, and care planning
• Perform video swallow studies as required by the department
• Provide in-services and clinical expertise to the Bronson Rehabilitation team
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives and program development
• Serve as a resource in areas of clinical expertise
• Cross-train and provide support within Rehabilitation Services as needed

Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities

• Complete accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatment plans, services provided, and patient progress
• Maintain compliance with electronic health record documentation requirements
• Communicate barriers to timely documentation with leadership
• Participate in department and system-wide process improvement efforts
• Provide educational programs for Bronson staff and the community
• Serve on committees and task forces as needed
• Assist with supervision of students and volunteers
• Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills

Physical Requirements

This position involves considerable standing, walking, reaching, and direct patient interaction throughout the day. Candidates must be able to regularly lift and move light-weight objects and assist with patient mobility activities as needed.
