The Solar PV Design Engineer supports the design and development of construction‑ready documentation for commercial/industrial (C&I) and utility‑scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems of 5-50MW or larger. This role focuses on producing accurate electrical designs, system layouts, and engineering analyses used for bidding, permitting, and construction. The engineer will work collaboratively with project teams and external partners to deliver safe, efficient, and code‑compliant PV system designs, from interconnection, to Issued For Construction (IFC), and final As-Built designs.
- Design and engineer C&I and utility‑scale solar PV systems (5-50MW+), including electrical power system components and layouts.
- Develop system layouts, equipment specifications, and detailed one‑line and three‑line diagrams.
- Perform DC, LVAC, and MVAC cable sizing, routing, trench design, grounding design, and SCADA/communications layouts.
- Produce construction‑ready drawing packages using AutoCAD.
- Coordinate with clients, utilities, permitting agencies, contractors, and partner engineering firms.
- Support Construction Administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and completing occasional site visits.
- Manage workload effectively across multiple active projects.
- Streamline tasks and design workflows to improve team efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), and industry best practices.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 1-4+ years of experience designing commercial and/or utility‑scale solar PV systems.
- Experience collaborating with construction, technical, and non‑technical teams.
- 1-3+ years of hands‑on experience with AutoCAD, including layer control, dimensioning, scaling, sheet sets, blocks, xrefs, line weights, and file management.
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) license required (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
- NABCEP PV Design Specialist (PVDS) Certification a plus.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD (or similar CAD platforms).
- Proficiency with power system design and modeling software (e.g., Etap, CYMCAP, WinGIS, PSCAD, PSS/E, CDEGS).
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and design tools.
