Software Technician II-Message Center

Overview

Maintains, controls and ensures the data structure of the software systems utilized by the departments in, and not limited to Support Services/Communications/Message Center in conjunction with Information Technology Department. Acts as a liaison between IT and department. Updates, maintains and coordinates interfacing of the software in accordance with UnityPoint Health Des Moines and the software vendor’s policies and procedures. Coordinates development and oversees the implementation of replacement/upgrading software systems for, but not limited to, Support Services/Communications/Message Center.

Responsibilities

70% Technical Support • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality of customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. • Displays considerable initiative and judgment involved in determining extent of repairs as may be required on all equipment and buildings selecting appropriate materials, utilizing the most effective methods, techniques and procedures when required to complete job assignments. • Maintains records on all actions performed on items under the responsibility of the Department. • Maintains all network data, connections, files and backup for the software systems in Support Services/Communications/Message Center in accordance with UnityPoint Health Des Moines and Support Services/Communications/Message Center policies and procedures. • Provide resident expertise for all Support Services/Communications/Message Center software systems and being a resource for Support Services/Communications/Message Center, UnityPoint Health Des Moines and all vendors providing services to Support Services/Communications/Message Center departments. • Responsible for the total security of software systems under the Support Services/Communications/Message Center umbrella. • Assists in developing a continuous quality improvement program to identify and analyze problems, develop possible solutions, test applications of solutions and implement changes. • Keeps informed through periodicals, books, training seminars, on-the-job training and other sources and participates in approved training programs to further job knowledge. • Records time of day, date, hours and/or minutes and materials expended on jobs and maintains files of pertinent records on equipment through the TMA work order maintenance database. • Observes and practices accepted procedures in the care and use of equipment and tools. Observes all safety regulations and practices. • Communicates with Manager and fellow employees to achieve understanding in a positive manner. • Willing to learn and accept new technology in the electronics field, such as computerized, wireless, microwave, etc. • Performs on-call duties during unscheduled working hours as assigned and is able to respond to emergency calls when necessary. • Operates appropriate test equipment. • Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest. • Utilizes staff and other resources to meet the needs of UnityPoint Health – Des Moines and other customers. Ensures that equipment programs meet requirements of regulating bodies. • Uses reliable private transportation when needed with suitable compensation. • Performs functions other than described below due to extenuating circumstances. • This position may be assigned a specific mission to address in an emergency situation to assist in disaster response and recovery as part of the UPH-DM Emergency Incident Command System. Situations of a critical nature may require an individual to perform multiple tasks until additional support can be obtained. 30% Performance Improvement and Other • Must be self-directed and assume responsibility for timely completion of job responsibilities. • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent. Associate Degree in Applied Science or commensurate experience in the computer field.  

Five (5) years related experience in the computer field. 

Hospital experience is preferred but not mandatory. 

Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse professional,  

educational, and diverse lifestyle backgrounds  

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
