About the Role

Good software should make complex things feel simple. As a Software Engineer at Southland Credit Union, you’ll help build the applications and services that make that possible—supporting the systems our associates use and the digital experiences our Members rely on every day.

This role goes beyond writing code. You’ll work across the software development lifecycle, partnering with business leaders, designers, developers, and IT professionals to understand problems, turn ideas into practical solutions, and improve the applications already in place. You’ll have a voice in the technologies we use and the way we approach development, with room to bring forward ideas that make our systems more effective, secure, and maintainable.

This is a strong fit for an engineer who enjoys solving real business problems, cares about the quality of their work, and wants to see how their technical decisions translate into better experiences for the people who depend on Southland’s technology.

This is an on-site/hybrid position based out of our headquarters in Los Alamitos, CA and requires a regular on-site presence. Candidates must reside in Southern California and be able to work the approved hybrid schedule. This is not a remote position, and applicants seeking fully remote work or residing outside of Southern California will not be considered.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Where Your Technical Expertise Makes a DifferenceYou’ll work across both the front end and back end of our applications, taking ideas from concept through deployment. That means building responsive, user-friendly experiences while also developing the secure and reliable services behind them. You’ll work with technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, .NET, SQL, and web services and APIs to create solutions that support business operations and Member-facing experiences.

The work will require more than technical execution. You’ll partner with internal stakeholders to understand what they are trying to accomplish, identify the underlying challenge, and translate those needs into scalable technology solutions. You’ll collaborate with designers, developers, and IT teams throughout the development lifecycle, bringing your perspective to decisions about architecture, technology, performance, security, and long-term maintainability.

Building Better Applications, Not Just New OnesPart of the work is improving what already exists. You’ll look for opportunities to strengthen application performance, scalability, and security, streamline development processes, and introduce new technologies when they make sense for Southland.

You’ll also help keep applications running reliably after they are deployed. That includes supporting deployments, troubleshooting production issues, and contributing to continuous improvement. When a technical issue is complex, you’ll use your analytical and problem-solving skills to understand what is happening, determine an appropriate solution, and help prevent similar challenges from becoming recurring problems.

Technology continues to evolve, and so will the way Southland builds and supports its applications. Staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends will help you bring forward ideas that support the organization’s strategic goals while keeping our development practices thoughtful and sustainable.

Knowledge and Skills

What Helps You SucceedExperience•    Five or more years of professional experience developing web applications.•    Five or more years of experience with front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.•    Five or more years of experience working with SQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.•    Five or more years of experience developing applications using the .NET Framework.•    Experience consuming web services and APIs, including REST, JSON, XML, or SOAP.•    Experience with front-end frameworks such as Angular, React, or Vue.js.•    Experience using version control systems such as Git.•    Knowledge of secure software development practices and application security principles.•    Familiarity with back-end technologies such as Node.js or Python is a plus.•    Experience with Symitar SymXchange or financial institution systems is preferred.

Education•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications•    Software Security certification or Web Development certification.•    Experience working within a banking or credit union environment.

USD $89,000.00/Yr.

Salary Maximum

USD $130,000.00/Yr.
