Xterra Health is hiring a full-stack Software Engineer to help build the technology behind our mission: giving veterans a faster, clearer path through the VA disability claims process. Xterra Health is a veteran-focused medical evidence company headquartered in Salem, Ohio, helping veterans navigate VA disability claims through independent medical evidence such as nexus letters and disability benefits questionnaires (DBQs). We're growing fast, and the technology behind our provider network, veteran portal, and internal tools needs a software engineer who can grow with it. This is a remote position open to candidates across the United States.

What You'll Do

• Build and ship features for our veteran portal, including scheduling, document management, and account status, taking it from prototype to production
• Develop AI-assisted tools that help our medical team draft nexus letters and DBQs faster and more accurately
• Build and maintain REST APIs that connect our CRM, payroll, and provider onboarding systems into one coherent platform
• Automate manual, repetitive workflows across HR, Accounting, and Provider Relations
• Implement secure, role-based access controls and audit logging for internal AI tools
• Partner directly with our Senior Software Engineer to shape technical direction and priorities
• Document systems and integrations so the team can scale smoothly as we grow

What You Bring

• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• Strong backend skills in Python, Node.js, or similar, plus working knowledge of REST APIs and webhooks
• Experience integrating third-party platforms via API, such as CRMs, payment processors, or scheduling tools
• Experience building internal automation and operational tooling, not just user-facing applications
• Comfortable working independently and owning a project from scoping through deployment

Nice to Have

• Front-end experience with React, Vue, or similar, plus TypeScript
• Hands-on experience with CRM and scheduling platforms such as GoHighLevel
• Experience building AI features using frameworks such as LangGraph or the Vercel AI SDK
• Background in healthcare, compliance, or HIPAA-adjacent environments
• Military service or a personal connection to the veteran community

Compensation & Benefits

• $110,000 to $140,000 per year, based on experience
• Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with Xterra Health covering 75% of employee premiums
