Small Business Account Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an Account Manager to create long-term, trusting relationships with our small business clients. The Account Manager’s role is to oversee a portfolio of assigned bookkeeping, lead client transition process for assigned clients, and develop new business from existing clients.  As an Account Manager, you are the business partner and accounting department for our small businesses. You will help small businesses succeed as a trusted advisor. In this role, you will have oversight of the entire client acquisition process including developing strong relationships with small business clients, partnering with fulfillment teams, and delivering results. You will answer client queries and identify new business opportunities among existing clients. As an account manager, you are the liaise between small business clients and all functional internal teams. 

Day to day, you’ll… 

• Serve as the lead point of contact for all assigned bookkeeping and payroll clients 

• Oversee entire client acquisition process from client referral to platform onboard, ensuring a great client experience and supporting the client throughout the process 

• Conduct outreach and follow up with client referrals to maximize conversion to service 

• Negotiate contracts and close agreements to meet client needs and meet growth targets 

• Assist with client onboarding onto platforms and virtual tools 

• Develop and maintain trusting and long-lasting advisor relationships with clients 

• Communicate bookkeeping and/or payroll results on behalf of the client with tax professionals who prepare the small business tax returns 

• Proactively leverage available resources and ask for help when needed 

• Maintain a sizable book of business with strong client retention and revenue per client 

Required Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Work Experience:

• Ability to anticipate customer needs and match them with appropriate products and services
• 2+ years account management experience
• Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting theory, and payroll theory/payroll taxation
• Comfort with working under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with multiple accounting/Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (QBO, Xero, Sage, etc.)
• Proven ability to juggle multiple projects at a time, while maintaining sharp attention to detail
• Strong research skills

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelors - Finance

Work Experience:

• 2+ years accounting or bookkeeping experience
• Basic tax knowledge
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification
• Exceptional communication and customer service skills, including strong verbal and written communication, listening, negotiation, and presentation abilities
• Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) or workflow management software (e.g. Salesforce or other)

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.

Pay Range

$25.10 - $37.64/Hr.
