Shuttle Bus Driver - Part Time

The Shuttle Bus Driver supports the Employee Shuttle Program on a part-time basis. This position transports MMCU employees on a fixed daily route between designated pickup points in Cedar City and/or Beaver and MMCU's mine site in Milford. Because the shuttle program depends on a strictly reliable schedule, the ideal candidate is punctual, safety-conscious, and comfortable maintaining a fixed departure time at every stop without exception.

Shuttle routes cross terrain affected by seasonal weather. Candidates with existing familiarity driving these roads — such as Cedar City or Beaver residents — are strongly preferred. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate the shuttle vehicle safely along the assigned fixed route between Cedar City and/or Beaver and MMCU's Milford site, in accordance with all applicable traffic laws and MMCU safety policies.
• Depart each stop at its posted time. The shuttle does not wait for a passenger who has not arrived by the scheduled departure time; maintaining the published schedule is a core requirement of this role.
• Conduct and document a pre-start safety inspection of the vehicle before every shift, checking items such as tires, brakes, lights and signals, mirrors, windshield and wipers, seatbelts, fluid levels, and onboard emergency equipment; complete a post-trip inspection at the end of each shift.
• Immediately report any mechanical issue, safety defect, or needed repair to the designated supervisor, and take the vehicle out of service rather than operating it if a safety-critical defect is identified.
• Clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle on a regular basis to keep it presentable, sanitary, and comfortable for riders.
• Refuel the vehicle before or after scheduled routes, never mid-route, and ensure the fuel level does not fall below the minimum threshold required to begin a shift.
• Ensure the vehicle is locked and secured at all times when unattended, including during layovers between routes and at the end of each shift.
• Maintain accurate daily records, including trip logs, pre- and post-trip inspection reports, and fueling documentation.
• Enforce passenger safety expectations while on board, including mandatory seatbelt use, and report any passenger conduct or safety concerns to the designated supervisor.
• Communicate promptly with Human Resources and Health & Safety regarding delays, incidents, road conditions, or schedule issues, and follow MMCU's emergency procedures when required.
• Complete all required training and maintain any certifications necessary to operate the vehicle, including site-specific safety orientation for MMCU's mine property.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving and to safely enter and exit the vehicle.
• Ability to operate a 12-15 passenger van safely in darkness, rain, wind, and light snow.
• Sufficient visual and auditory acuity to operate a motor vehicle safely in a variety of weather and lighting conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally (for example, cleaning supplies or emergency equipment).
• Ability to perform routine pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, including bending, kneeling, and reaching as needed to check tires, fluids, and undercarriage components.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position. Shifts available: 5am-9am and 5pm-9pm, assigned according to MMCU's shift rotation and may include early-morning and/or evening routes timed to shift changes at the Milford site. Consistent availability for the assigned route and schedule is required.

Drivers are typically scheduled for 3 to 5 shifts per week. Additional coverage opportunities may arise, and drivers may volunteer to pick up occasional extra shifts when staffing gaps or route coverage needs occur. Consistent reliability for all assigned shifts is required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications 

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must hold a current, valid Utah class D driver's license and clean motor vehicle record, verified at hire and periodically afterward thereafter to ensure continued eligibility for operating company vehicles.
• A clean MVR means no DUI, reckless driving, major moving violations, or license suspensions within the past three years, and no pattern of repeated minor violations.
• Strong reliability and punctuality; this role directly supports a fixed schedule that other employees depend on for shift changes.
• Basic mechanical aptitude sufficient to recognize and describe vehicle issues accurately.
• Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening, and to comply with MMCU's ongoing random testing program given the safety-sensitive nature of this role.
• Must meet the minimum age requirement applicable to the license class required for this position.
• Willingness and ability to complete MSHA site orientation and any required annual refresher training, since this route terminates on active mine property.
• Professional, courteous demeanor when interacting with passengers, MMCU staff, other vehicles and pedestrians.
• Prior experience driving a passenger van, bus, or other commercial vehicle preferred.
• Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement is preferred.
