Responsibilities 

This position involves developing the monthly financial statement and maintaining the accounting records of International Fertilizer Development Center.  Duties may include:  

• Prepare the monthly financial statements and underlying documentation including trial balance, fixed asset, cash flow, detailed expenditures, month-end journal vouchers;
• Prepare expenditure reports as required, including preparing donor reports, auditing international books and records, converting international records into U.S. currency, reconciling detailed records to supporting documents, and issuing monthly expenditure statements;
• Prepare, process and maintain hourly and annual employee payroll and pension;
• Prepare and implement accounting package for IFDC field offices;
• Update and maintain employee records such as salary benefits, home leave costs, sick leave, time sheets, reconciliations; 
• Perform a variety of other minor related duties as required. 

Requirements 

This job requires a broad understanding of accounting and the ability to apply that knowledge to perform this position's duties.  This job may require the following: 

• Knowledge of accounting standards, principles and practices in order to develop and maintain records and reports; 
• Ability to structure, implement and monitor accounting package for field office; 
• Ability to use a personal computer effectively to maintain accounting records and to run related reports and a knowledge of applicable software programs to process payroll and pension payments; 
• Ability to apply basic knowledge of foreign currency translation principles to maintain accounting records; 
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with responsibilities including preparing invoices for headquarters’ costs to submit to donors, generating detailed financial statements, guiding field office accounting personnel, summarizing budget-to-actual expenditure variances for special projects, and reconciling salary and benefits data across IFDC, AIARC, and ADP systems;
• Minimum of Bachelor's degree in accounting and 8-10 years of relevant work experience (including international accounting). 

Reporting and Work Relationships 

The Senior Accountant position reports to the Assistant Controller.  

Location 

This is a national position recruitment with a duty station at the IFDC office in Muscle Shoals, AL.
