Job Summary

The Senior Vice President will serves as the executive leader responsible for developing, directing, and optimizing security operations across a large, multi-site healthcare system.  

The SVP is an enterprise strategist and operational executive, driving excellence through disciplined program management, workforce optimization, stakeholder alignment, and continuous improvement across all contracted security operations.

The SVP partners closely with hospital executives, security leadership, emergency management teams, clinical operations, and contracted service providers to design and execute a unified, scalable, and compliant security strategy that protects healthcare environments without disrupting patient care.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Security Governance

Develop and execute the enterprise security strategy for all contracted security operations across hospitals, clinics, ambulatory centers, and administrative facilities.
Serve as the primary executive liaison between the healthcare system and the contracted security vendor(s).
Establish and maintain governance frameworks, SLAs, KPIs, compliance standards, and performance scorecards.
Lead contract negotiations, renewals, performance reviews, and vendor accountability measures.
Drive cost optimization strategies while ensuring uncompromised safety and patient experience.

Operations Management & Service Delivery Excellence

Oversee daily and long-term operations of a multi-state, multi-location contracted security workforce (officers, supervisors, site leads, dispatch, and training staff).
Ensure consistent adherence to Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, NFPA, HIPAA, and all other healthcare regulatory requirements.
Standardize security protocols, workflows, post orders, emergency responses, and incident reporting across all locations.
Implement and monitor workforce performance, staffing levels, schedules, and coverage reliability.
Partner with hospital leadership to address environment-of-care concerns, patient elopements, behavioral health events, and workplace violence risk.

Talent, Training & Culture Development

Direct and strengthen recruitment, onboarding, credentialing, and retention strategies for contracted officers and leadership.
Ensure healthcare-specific training programs, including de-escalation, CPI/MOAB, trauma-informed response, patient/staff engagement, and HIPAA security awareness.
Build a culture of service excellence, professionalism, accountability, and continuous learning across all security personnel.
Oversee leadership succession planning and development for security managers, supervisors, and emerging leaders.

Regulatory, Compliance & Risk Mitigation

Oversee all compliance audits, security assessments, safety rounds, and environment-of-care walkthroughs.
Develop and enhance risk mitigation strategies for high-risk environments such as ERs, behavioral health units, parking structures, and pharmacy/controlled substance areas.
Ensure all security personnel meet licensing, credentialing, immunization, and background requirements.
Lead root-cause analyses of significant events, security breaches, workplace violence incidents, and patient safety risks.

Technology, Data & Reporting

Deploy and optimize healthcare security technologies, including access control, CCTV, visitor management, panic systems, radios, and electronic incident reporting platforms.
Lead data integrity initiatives and ensure accurate, real-time reporting of incidents, trends, and operational insights.
Present executive-level dashboards, risk analyses, and strategic recommendations to C-suite stakeholders and governing boards.

Emergency Management & Crisis Leadership

Partner with Emergency Management on hospital incident command activities, disaster recovery operations, and crisis preparedness plans.
Ensure rapid on-site response and leadership presence during critical incidents or major security events.
Coordinate with public safety agencies, law enforcement, emergency medical providers, and local municipalities.

Qualifications

Required

15+ years of progressive security leadership experience, including 10+ years at the director level or above within healthcare or regulated critical infrastructure.
Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, Emergency Management, or related field; master’s degree strongly preferred.
Proven experience managing large-scale contract security programs across multi-site environments.
Expertise in healthcare regulations, environment-of-care standards, life safety codes, and workplace violence prevention.
Demonstrated ability to lead enterprise-wide programs, negotiate high-value contracts, and influence C-suite stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills with experience presenting metrics and operational dashboards to executive leadership.
Exceptional communication, relationship management, and crisis leadership capabilities.

Preferred

Professional certifications such as CHPA, CPP, CHEP, PMP, or equivalent.
Experience with major hospital systems, academic medical centers, or high-volume ER/Behavioral Health environments.
Expertise in modern healthcare security technologies and incident management systems.
