Senior Software Engineer

Data science is in a moment of reinvention: AI-generated code and agentic workflows are changing what it means to put analytical work into production. We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will bring a builder’s instinct to a team working at the intersection of data science, infrastructure, and AI. You will help us build new capabilities and features in our product suite, including things we haven’t yet imagined possible, and you will drive those changes forward into our customers’ hands.

You are an enthusiastic generalist who thrives in the face of ambiguous requirements—an engineer who is just as good at starting things as you are at finishing them. Some qualities we value most:

High agency

You are driven. When something important feels daunting or underspecified, your first instinct is to prototype to clarify the value you can deliver, rather than wait for someone to give you the answers.

Boldness in learning

You are genuinely unafraid to tackle unfamiliar subjects. You know that nobody is an expert in everything, and you don't let unfamiliarity be a reason for not trying. You're not afraid to ask questions and make mistakes, because learning new techniques feels like an adventure and we share what we learn as a team. Proficiency in either Go or Typescript as well as in either Python or R, and experience with backend systems, data tooling, and data science frameworks are helpful for this role. Eagerness and boldness to learn is essential.  

User empathy and product sense

You make judgment calls on behalf of users with minimal up front guidance and are willing to be wrong, because you will learn. Prior domain expertise with data science as a practice may help, but it is not the only way. Regardless, you lead with empathy: you optimize for solving a real customer problem, not for technical purity.

Collaborative curiosity

You are generous. When you learn something useful, your first instinct is to share it. You teach as readily as you learn, ask questions without ego, admit what you don't know, and lend a hand when someone's stuck.

Interest in AI

You are interested not just in using AI in your work, but building tools for customers to use AI in their own work. You also are curious, and you question when AI is not the right answer for a particular problem. You lean on your user empathy when building: knowing that some of our customers use and love AI in data science and others don’t or are restricted from using it.

Results-driven

You are focused on delivering measurable value to customers. You have a strong technical background with a track record of shipping successful products. 

Within one week, you will…

• See your changes reflected in our public releases.
• Participate in feature planning and provide feedback.
• Feel comfortable navigating the codebase and understand how things fit together.

Within three months, you will…

• Plan features and drive their development.
• Have a track record of teaching team members; both from your expertise and things you learn as you build. 
• Have a track record of learning: both from the things you learned and taught us along the way; and from listening to internal users, external users, and how our customers use our products.

Within six months, you will…

• Point to new features you built that we hadn’t even dreamed were possible.

Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, and skillset. This hiring range reflects base salary and assumes that the job will be performed in the United States.

Hiring Range$141,800—$187,110 USD
