Senior Site Reliability Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer based in United States.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will take end-to-end ownership of the reliability and operational performance of critical production systems.
You will work hands-on across cloud infrastructure, observability, incident response, capacity planning, performance, and deployment safety.
The role sits within a globally distributed infrastructure team supporting a high-throughput platform where availability, latency, and correctness directly affect customers.
You will define reliability targets, improve monitoring and alerting, and use real production data to identify and resolve risks before they become incidents.
You will also build infrastructure and software tooling that makes services easier to operate and reduces repetitive operational work.
Working closely with product engineering teams, you will help design systems for resilience from the start while mentoring engineers and strengthening operational practices across the organization.

Accountabilities

• Own the reliability of critical production systems end to end, including instrumentation, reliability targets, operations, and performance under real-world traffic.

• Define and maintain SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for key services, connecting reliability data to engineering priorities and investment decisions.

• Improve alert quality by increasing actionable signal, reducing unnecessary noise, and identifying gaps where customer-impacting issues are not detected quickly enough.

• Take a leading role in high-severity incident response, investigating issues systematically across service boundaries, restoring service, and driving actionable postmortems.

• Design and operate secure, resilient, and cost-efficient infrastructure with a strong focus on failure modes, including timeouts, retries, backpressure, load shedding, graceful degradation, and blast-radius reduction.

• Perform capacity and performance analysis through load testing, profiling, saturation analysis, and proactive headroom planning.

• Improve change safety through progressive delivery, automated rollback, meaningful pre-production validation, and dependable deployment practices.

• Manage infrastructure through code and configuration, primarily using Terraform, while maintaining consistency with broader service architecture.

• Design, develop, and ship production software and developer-facing tooling that reduces operational toil and simplifies service ownership.

• Conduct controlled failure testing, game days, and chaos exercises to identify system weaknesses and establish safe operating limits.

• Partner with product engineering teams on production readiness for new and high-risk services, including capacity, failure modes, rollback strategies, runbooks, and on-call handoffs.

• Participate in the on-call rotation and continuously improve the experience through better runbooks, clearer escalation paths, and reduced pager fatigue.

• Apply a strong security mindset to engineering work by identifying potential vulnerabilities in your own implementations and during peer reviews.

• Serve as a technical resource for complex production challenges and mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design feedback.

Requirements

• 6–10 years of experience in SRE, production engineering, infrastructure, or backend engineering, ideally in primarily cloud-based environments with meaningful responsibility for production systems.

• Proven experience owning systems end to end, from design and implementation through production operation and continuous improvement.

• Hands-on experience defining, implementing, and operating against SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets.

• Demonstrated experience responding to high-severity, customer-facing production incidents and improving organizational incident-management practices.

• Strong understanding of distributed-system failure modes in high-throughput and low-latency environments, including cache and database saturation, cascading failures, retry storms, capacity constraints, degradation, and load shedding.

• Strong cloud infrastructure fundamentals, including networking, load balancing, containerization, Kubernetes/EKS, and distributed systems.

• Extensive experience managing infrastructure through code and configuration using Terraform or an equivalent technology.

• Strong programming skills in Go, Python, or a comparable language, with the ability to build and ship production-ready software.

• Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, or similar technologies, including the ability to instrument systems directly.

• Hands-on production experience with Redis or ElastiCache, including cluster and shard management, failover behavior, memory eviction policies, and scaling strategies.

• Strong understanding of software engineering practices, including source control, code review, comprehensive testing, and safe deployment processes.

• High degree of ownership and autonomy, with the ability to make progress when requirements are not fully defined.

• Pragmatic approach to reliability, balancing engineering investment with delivery needs and making informed decisions about acceptable risk.

• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including technical design documents, pull-request reviews, incident communications, and postmortems.

• Comfortable using AI tools as part of everyday engineering workflows, including incident investigation, telemetry analysis, runbook creation, and internal tooling, with practical judgment about their strengths and limitations.
