The role partners closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Design, Marketing, Sales, Client Success, Support, Finance, and executive leadership to drive alignment and advance product priorities.

Responsibilities

Product Strategy and Ownership

  • Develop and maintain product strategy for Managed Magento, Managed Shopware, and InterWorx based on client needs, market opportunities, competitive intelligence, technical considerations, and company priorities.
  • Define target client segments, client needs, value propositions, positioning, and strategic product priorities.
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps that identify strategic priorities, key investments, trade-offs, dependencies, and expected outcomes.
  • Recommend product priorities and investment decisions based on client value, business opportunity, technical feasibility, operational considerations, and available resources.
  • Lead product decisions within the role's delegated authority and recommend decisions requiring approval from product leadership or other appropriate stakeholders.
  • Guide decisions related to plan structure, service tiers, add-ons, upgrade paths, licensing, and the end-to-end client experience.
  • Maintain a clear and defensible position on product differentiation, including the distinct client needs served by Magento and Shopware and the competitive position of InterWorx.
  • Manage product lifecycle activities, including supported software versions, end-of-life planning, deprecations, upgrade programs, and client migration paths.

Technical Product Leadership

  • Develop and maintain a working understanding of the technical components that influence ecommerce performance and reliability, including Varnish, Redis, Valkey, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, PHP-FPM, MySQL or MariaDB, Nginx, object and full-page caching, message queues, and cron and queue workers.
  • Translate technical capabilities, constraints, and requirements into clear product requirements and decisions.
  • Partner with Engineering and Infrastructure to evaluate technical feasibility, architecture considerations, capacity requirements, performance, security, reliability, and operational risk.
  • Inform product decisions regarding default configurations, resource sizing, plan limits, supported versions, and the boundaries of services included in managed offerings.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to clients, partners, and internal stakeholders, connecting platform architecture to client outcomes such as storefront performance, checkout reliability, stability under load, and overall user experience.
  • Monitor upstream product and technology roadmaps from Adobe, Shopware, and relevant open-source projects and assess potential impacts on product strategy, client commitments, support requirements, and operating costs.
  • Partner with technical teams to identify opportunities to improve product performance, reliability, scalability, and client experience.

InterWorx Product Leadership

  • Lead product strategy and roadmap planning for InterWorx as both an internal platform component and a commercially licensed product.
  • Maintain an informed view of the hosting control panel market, including licensing models, competitive positioning, and the needs of hosting providers, resellers, agencies, and system administrators.
  • Evaluate and recommend investment priorities between internal platform requirements and the needs of external licensees.
  • Partner with relevant teams to support the technical evaluation, onboarding, adoption, and retention of control panel clients and partners.
  • Monitor market and client feedback to identify opportunities to improve InterWorx capabilities, positioning, and commercial performance.

Product and Business Performance

  • Lead product strategy and planning in support of agreed client and business outcomes.
  • Use client, market, operational, and financial data to inform recommendations related to pricing, packaging, adoption, attach rate, conversion, retention, expansion, and margin.

  • Partner with Finance, Marketing, Sales, client Success, and other relevant stakeholders when evaluating commercial opportunities and product decisions.
  • Understand the relationship between product and platform decisions and unit economics, including server density, resource consumption, licensing costs, and support requirements.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve product performance and business outcomes while recognizing that commercial results may be influenced by factors outside the direct control of Product.
  • Monitor agreed product and business measures and use insights to inform prioritization, recommendations, and future investment.

New Product and Capability Development

  • Identify and evaluate unmet client needs and potential opportunities for new products, plans, features, and capabilities.
  • Lead client discovery, product validation, prototyping, benchmarking, and experimentation activities.
  • Develop recommendations regarding product opportunities based on client evidence, market information, technical feasibility, and business considerations.

  • Monitor technical performance measures such as response times, uptime, cache efficiency, and other agreed product health indicators.
  • Monitor client and business measures such as adoption, conversion, retention, expansion, and other agreed indicators of product performance.
  • Communicate product performance, key insights, risks, and recommendations to product leadership and relevant stakeholders.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative information to evaluate product performance and inform prioritization and investment recommendations.
  • Recommend adjustments to product strategy or plans when data, client feedback, or market conditions indicate a need for change.

Client Focus

  • Engage directly with merchants, agencies, developers, system administrators, and client-facing teams through interviews, support insights, sales discussions, and appropriate community engagement.
  • Incorporate client needs, feedback, and experience considerations into product strategy and prioritization.
  • Evaluate qualitative and quantitative client insights to identify trends, validate opportunities, and inform product recommendations.
  • Serve as a product escalation point for significant client-impacting product and platform issues.
