About the Role
As the Senior Director of Solutions Engineering, you will own A-LIGN’s pre-sales technical function end to end, leading a team of Solutions Engineers while serving as the organization’s subject matter expert across A-LIGN’s service delivery frameworks. In this role, you will set pre-sales strategy for the global sales organization, build and develop the leaders who run day-to-day technical engagement, and lead complex, high-value pursuits, from executive discovery and technical presentations through multi-framework scoping and commercial proposal strategy across SOC, ISO, PCI, FedRAMP, CMMC, HITRUST, and HIPAA. You will define the standards, methodologies, and rules of engagement that govern how pre-sales partners with Sales and Service Delivery, ensuring seamless client transitions and durable alignment between revenue growth and delivery margin. Leveraging deep market intelligence, you will advise executive leadership on A-LIGN’s service portfolio and the evolving regulatory landscape driving client demand. Pre-Sales Leadership & Technical Strategy
- Own pre-sales strategy for the global sales organization and serve as the subject matter expert for A-LIGN’s service delivery frameworks.
- Set the operating model for how Solutions Engineering supports SMB, Mid-Market, and Enterprise sales teams, including coverage, engagement thresholds, and escalation paths.
- Serve as a technical advisor on strategic and competitive pursuits, personally leading the most complex client engagements and C-level presentations.
- Advise Sales, Marketing, and Service Delivery leadership on technical positioning, objection handling, and framework-specific deal strategy across the portfolio.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory and industry developments across all compliance frameworks, translating changes into actionable guidance for sales and delivery teams.
- Analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging compliance demands to inform GTM strategy, service portfolio direction, and executive planning.
- Direct the development and execution of market-facing thought leadership, including executive presentations, webinars, white papers, and blog content that elevate A-LIGN’s brand and compliance authority.
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable a team of Solutions Engineers, owning goal setting, performance management, and career progression.
- Build the Solutions Engineering org structure and hiring plan, defining role levels, coverage ratios, and the competency model that governs how the function scales.
- Establish onboarding, enablement, and certification paths that reduce ramp time and build framework depth across the team.
- Define the metrics that govern the function; technical win rate, scoping accuracy, proposal cycle time, and delivery margin on scoped work. Report performance to executive leadership on a regular cadence.
Advanced Project Scoping & Solution Architecture
- Own the technical scoping process for complex, multi-framework, and enterprise-level engagements, ensuring proposals accurately reflect client environment scale, system architecture, and compliance boundaries.
- Direct the development of multi-year compliance roadmaps for clients consolidating multiple certifications, optimizing audit timelines and reducing redundant testing effort.
- Lead deep-dive discovery sessions to evaluate client infrastructure, sample sizes, control environments, and third-party dependencies, mitigating the risk of under-scoping and mid-project scope creep.
- Partner with Service Delivery leaders to establish standardized, repeatable scoping methodologies and rules of engagement that balance revenue growth with delivery margin targets.
- Review and approve technical sections of Statements of Work (SOWs), ensuring accurate technical articulation of deliverables and milestones.
- Govern the formal pre-sales to delivery handoff, ensuring delivery teams are fully briefed on scoped architecture, client expectations, commitments, and unique environmental nuances.
