Senior Design Manager

This position offers a base salary range of $116,829 - $194,713 per year, depending on experience and qualifications, plus bonus based on company performance.

OVERVIEW

Lead the Design team in the execution of the strategic direction of the Sheetz Store Design programs. Collaborate and co-lead with department senior management to build and support a high performing design and architectural studio that positions Sheetz for growth and excellence, creating an exceptional customer experiences, maximizing sales, and ensuring the balance of function and aesthetics.

RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

1. Collaborates with the Sheetz Executive Committee, Planning Team, and other key stakeholders to create the strategic direction of the design of our retail stores, to include present and future store designs.
2. Maximize the development of direct reports through regular performance coaching, performance reviews and presenting development opportunities.
3. Effectively plan, manage, balance, prioritize & execute upon multiple projects, simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to meet and support tight timeline requirements for other supporting departments.
4. Provide oversight to lead, develop, and deliver creative design solutions for our store retail physical spaces for new stores, prototypes, remodels, refreshes, rebuilds, and existing aspects of our business in order to maximize sales opportunities and enhance the customer experience while providing resources and prioritization to design teams for effective workflow.
5. Plan, manage, balance, prioritize & execute upon multiple projects, simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to meet and support tight timeline requirements for other supporting departments.
6. Responsible for setting goals, developing organizational capability, understanding marketing plans, company goals and initiatives, sales data, and customer feedback, and modeling collaborative work processes as a high performing team to translate them into impactful and effective store design solutions.
7. Manage, monitor, and adhere to annual budgets for assigned area of responsibility to maximize profitability.
8. Lead creation of visual positioning boards in Mural or similar design collaboration software, on assigned projects, to comprehensively represent project evolution and process through design concept finalization.
9. Utilize expertise level proficiency in interior architectural design and construction documentation (conceptual, schematic, design development & construction documents), signage, site design and construction administration.
10. Utilize high level interpersonal and communication skills to ensure a positive and effective relationship within our internal teams and other stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS

(Equivalent combinations of education, licenses, certifications and/or experience may be considered)

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field from an NCARB accredited program required.
• Master’s Degree in Architecture preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 8 years professional experience in designing the interior architecture for multi-unit retail, building renovations and/or new construction for commercial buildings required.
• Minimum 8 years work experience utilizing Revit, AutoCAD, and SketchUp required.
• Minimum 8 years supervisory experience leading and building high performing teams required.
• Minimum 7 years project management experience required.
• Previous experience managing customer journey and how to execute solutions through this lens required.
• Previous experience in building codes, materials, and systems in commercial construction, space planning, basic ADA, human ergonomics, construction documents, and implementation of design elements in CD sets required.
• Previous experience with reviewing, revising, and approving vendor shop drawings required.
• Previous experience in creating and maintaining accurate building plans & architectural and interior architectural drawings required.
• A portfolio of successful projects, in restaurant and/or retail environments, that illustrate appropriate experience and qualities required.
• Experience managing or involvement in a capital expansion program is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

• NCIDQ (National Council of Interior Design Qualifications) Certification required.
