Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

The Role

ITHAKA is seeking a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to advance how software is built, delivered, and experienced across the product engineering organization. This role reports to the Associate Director, Product Engineering as a member of the Technology Enabling Services team.

As Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will combine cloud infrastructure operations,DevOps practices, and platform engineering principles with a strong emphasis on developer experience, usability, and operational excellence.

You will design, build, and operate internal- and external-facing infrastructure as well as tools and services that empower engineering teams to deliver high-quality software faster and more safely. This includes hands-on development of cloud infrastructure provisioning and management workflows. Your work will directly influence how developers interact with our platforms and how effectively teams ship and maintain software. This is a highly collaborative role for a senior engineer who enjoys building production systems, mentoring others, shaping engineering practices, and acting as a force multiplier across teams.

Responsibilities

• Building and integrating networking, security, logging, and application orchestration systems that support products serving millions of users globally.
• Designing identity and access management solutions that promote secure operations with low operational overhead.
• Working with the Technology Enabling Services team to create safe and reliable self-service offerings for resource provisioning and access requests.
• Provisioning infrastructure economically and building visibility and tooling for other engineers to do the same with their workload resources.
• Owning reliability and resiliency outcomes for core infrastructure.
• Turning recurring support requests into reusable capabilities.

Experience and Skills

Core requirements

• 5 or more years as a platform or infrastructure engineer delivering large-scale systems.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally, tailoring the level of detail and message to the audience, from technical teams to business leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Demonstrated product thinking and systems thinking.
• Ability to self-direct near-term work and partner in developing long-term strategy.
• Ability to drive the cadence and coordination of regular system upgrades with minimal interruption to consumers.
• Proven experience building cloud infrastructure in one of the major infrastructure-as-a-service providers, with AWS experience strongly preferred.
• Proven experience managing configuration and performance of a content delivery/edge network solution such as Fastly, Cloudflare, or Amazon CloudFront.
• Proven experience using infrastructure-as-code solutions to codify cloud resources, with  Terraform experience strongly preferred.
• Proven experience operating an orchestration platform with containerized applications and ephemeral/scheduled workloads, with experience in Kubernetes a plus.
• Practical experience with an imperative programming language such as Python or Go.
• Experience with metric, log, and tracing infrastructure solutions, with experience in OpenTelemetry or Grafana a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud security solutions like web application firewalls.

Preferred experience

• Practical experience offering a multi-region, multi-account, or multi-cloud delivery environment for failover or performance a plus.
• Practical expertise contributing to or operating internal developer platforms, enablement tooling, or shared services.
• Demonstrated proficiency authoring CI/CD pipelines, with GitLab CI/CD experience a plus.
• Experience developing Terraform modules for consumers to streamline resource provisioning.

Compensation & Benefits

The starting salary for the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer position ranges from $112,240 - $140,300. Starting pay may vary with job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. At present, our total compensation package for benefits-eligible employees includes medical, dental, and vision plans, an employer-paid 10% retirement contribution, paid parental and caregiver leave, 22 days of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, up to 12 sick days, wellness benefits, and more.
