Senior Backend Engineer - Microservices

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer - Microservices based in United States.

This is a senior backend engineering role focused on designing, developing, and supporting scalable microservices for critical enterprise systems.
You will work across product, architecture, and cloud engineering teams to deliver reliable solutions within a modern cloud-native environment.
The role provides an opportunity to apply deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Google Cloud Platform, databases, and distributed systems.
You will contribute throughout the development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to testing, deployment, production support, and continuous improvement.
The position also involves strengthening engineering standards through code reviews, automation, quality practices, and technical collaboration.
You will operate in an Agile environment with opportunities to influence best practices and provide technical guidance to other engineers.
This is a fully remote, full-time position with limited travel and a strong focus on large-scale, high-availability software platforms.

Accountabilities:

• Architect, design, develop, and maintain scalable microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Engineer cloud-native solutions on Google Cloud Platform, leveraging services such as Cloud Run, GKE, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery.
• Design and optimize SQL queries, databases, and data pipelines to support high-availability and performance-sensitive systems.
• Build and maintain CI/CD automation using Jenkins and infrastructure-as-code solutions with Terraform.
• Develop comprehensive automated unit tests using JUnit and continuously improve software quality, reliability, and maintainability.
• Conduct peer code reviews, provide actionable technical feedback, and help establish and maintain engineering standards.
• Provide production support, including incident management, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and resolution of technical issues.
• Participate actively in Agile development processes and maintain accurate tracking of engineering work using project management tools.
• Collaborate with product, architecture, cloud engineering, and other technical stakeholders to translate requirements into effective software solutions.
• Contribute to architectural and engineering best practices for microservices, distributed systems, automation, and cloud-native development.
• Support the mentoring and development of other engineers through technical collaboration, reviews, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or another relevant technical discipline; candidates without a relevant four-year degree may qualify with an additional four years of relevant professional experience.
• 13+ years of experience delivering solutions based on microservices architecture.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on experience developing and deploying applications using Google Cloud Platform, particularly Cloud Run, GKE, Pub/Sub, and BigQuery.
• Strong SQL skills and demonstrated experience with database performance tuning.
• Experience building and managing Jenkins CI/CD pipelines and implementing Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform.
• Strong experience creating comprehensive JUnit test coverage and maintaining high standards of code quality.
• Proven experience conducting peer code reviews and providing constructive, actionable feedback.
• Experience working with Agile project management tools such as VersionOne or similar platforms.
• Production support experience, including incident management, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes is preferred.
• Strong understanding of microservices design patterns and advanced distributed-systems concepts is preferred.
• Experience supporting high-traffic, large-scale platforms is an asset.
• Contributions to open-source software are preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment while taking ownership of complex technical responsibilities.
• The position requires the ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance, including completing required identity verification and fingerprinting.
• Must satisfy the applicable U.S. residency requirements associated with the required security investigation.
• U.S. citizenship is not required for the position.

• Annual salary range of $136,000–$184,000 USD, with compensation determined based on experience, geographic location, and applicable contractual requirements.
