Security Intern (Green Bay, WI)

Job Summary: The Security Intern will assist the Information Security team in vulnerability management, security operations, risk and compliance activities, and security awareness initiatives. The intern will gain hands-on experience with enterprise cybersecurity tools, incident response processes, governance activities, and regulatory compliance programs within a telecommunications environment. This position provides an opportunity to learn information security practices, technologies, and compliance frameworks in a corporate setting while working alongside experienced security professionals.

This position is an on-premises position located at our Green Bay office, we do not offer any relocation reimbursements.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

K:

Required:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Information Security, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.

• Basic understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.

• Familiarity with operating systems, endpoint security concepts, and Microsoft 365 environments.

• Understanding of cybersecurity principles, security best practices, and common threat vectors.

• Basic knowledge of vulnerability management concepts and vulnerability scanning methodologies.

• Understanding of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) and their role in identifying and prioritizing security risks.

Preferred:

• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as PCI DSS, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, or CIS Controls.

• Exposure to Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR) technologies.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID and identity and access management concepts.

• Exposure to Microsoft Graph API or security automation concepts.

• Knowledge of telecommunications industry regulations, including Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI).

• Coursework or practical experience related to ethical hacking, penetration testing, or security assessments.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assist in identifying, documenting, and reporting security vulnerabilities.

• Review vulnerability scan results and assist with remediation tracking and validation activities.

• Support vulnerability management reporting and metrics development.

• Participate in the collection, normalization, and analysis of security event log data.

• Assist with monitoring and responding to security alerts and incidents under the guidance of senior security staff.

• Support the creation and tuning of security alerts, response procedures, and reporting processes.

• Assist with cybersecurity risk assessments and risk register maintenance activities.

• Support evidence collection and documentation efforts for compliance and audit initiatives.

• Collaborate with IT teams to support PCI DSS compliance and other regulatory requirements.

• Assist in the creation, review, and maintenance of security policies, standards, and procedures.

• Participate in security control reviews and governance activities.

• Assist with incident response activities under the guidance of senior security staff.

• Help prepare security metrics, dashboards, and management reports.

• Support the development and delivery of security awareness and training materials.

• Assist in conducting vulnerability assessments and security reviews.

• Support identity and access management activities, including account reviews and privileged access governance tasks.

• Collaborate with business and technical teams to promote and integrate security best practices.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.
