Location: West Valley City

Job Summary: American Preparatory Academy is seeking a knowledgeable and engaging educator to serve as a Secondary Digital Literacy and Financial Literacy Teacher. This full-time position teaches Digital Literacy in the morning and Financial Literacy in the afternoon, preparing students with essential technology, personal finance, and real-world skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:

Digital Literacy

Teach digital skills including online research, digital citizenship, keyboarding, media literacy, basic computer operations, and responsible technology use.

Teach productivity tools such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.

Address internet safety and the ethical use of digital media and communication.

Financial Literacy

Teach personal finance topics including budgeting, saving, credit, loans, taxes, investing, and responsible consumer behavior.

Teach students to set financial goals and make informed economic decisions.

Use real-world scenarios, simulations, and project-based learning to strengthen financial understanding.

General Teacher Duties

Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons using a variety of instructional methods and materials.

Prepare assignments and assessments; evaluate and grade student performance.

Monitor student academic progress and address academic or behavioral concerns.

Communicate student progress and concerns professionally with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration.

Maintain a positive and well-managed classroom environment and build positive relationships with students and parents.

Maintain required student records, attendance, and other documentation.

Administer standardized tests in accordance with applicable laws and policies.

Supervise students in classrooms, halls, study periods, lunchrooms, school grounds, field trips, and other assigned activities.

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, conferences, and training.

Maintain knowledge of current research and best practices in secondary education.

Sponsor or support student activities or organizations as assigned.

Enforce safety and security standards.

Other duties as assigned.

Schedule:

Typical schedule is MTF: 7:45 - 4:15, WTh: 7:45 - 4:30 (hours may vary based on campus)

Able to work well in a teamwork environment, including participation in a coaching model for teaching

Knowledge of secondary education pedagogy and best practices

Knowledge of digital literacy, technology, personal finance, and financial literacy

Ability to develop engaging lessons using varied instructional methods

Strong classroom management, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and related technology

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed

Ability to move throughout the school facility and assist in leading students to safety during an emergency

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree required

Appropriate state accreditation/teaching license required

Ongoing professional courses and in-service training as required

Prior teaching experience highly preferred

Specialized training in teaching secondary school-aged children preferred

Specialized knowledge or experience in digital literacy, financial literacy, business, technology, or a related field preferred

Master’s degree highly preferred
