Nursery Caregivers provide daily care, medical support and enrichment for nursery animals and provide support for the foster program. In this role, you’ll provide care for animals 0-8 weeks of age, as well as queens with kittens up to 8 weeks of age.
This role delivers service at the gold standard level in alignment with the SDHS Way, to meet the needs of animals and the people who love them by leading with compassion, finding creative solutions, providing personalized care and building connections. What you’ll do:
Complete daily cleaning and feeding routines, maintaining assigned area in a clean, organized and professional manner, as scheduled and in compliance of SDHS kitten nursery policy and procedures and underage kitten protocol
Monitor the health of shelter animals; follow established procedures if symptoms of illness arise based on the degree of illness or injury
Administer subcutaneous fluids and oral medications
Will assist as needed to restrain animals for blood draw and examination
Handle and nurture animals appropriately according to age and needs of the animal
What we’re looking for:
Highschool graduate or equivalent required.
One (1) year experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, veterinary hospital, or volunteer environment preferred.
Neonatal kitten experience strongly preferred.
Location & Hours: Based at our San Diego Campus. Full-time positions works 40 hours per week. Per Required Needed (PRN) positions work approximately 4 hours per week. Both full-time and PRN positions will last until approximately November 2026.
Pay: Starting range is between $20.00 – $22.25 per hour.
The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time. For all candidates, the actual starting pay rate is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to your years of related education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
