School Bus Monitor

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides safe monitoring in transportation from schools to buses while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Maintains constant communication with the WSY regarding current child list.

1. Completes daily attendance list.

1. Promotes safety at all times. Ensures that safety rules are announced and followed.

1. Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work. Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.

1. Understands our Child Abuse Prevention Policy and ensures that it is followed.

1. Develops friendly and positive relationships among children and other staff.

1. Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.

1. Ensures safety is maintained until WSY bus arrives to pick the children up.

1. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.

1. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate program activities.

1. Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization.  Actively supports all DEIB efforts. 

1. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

1. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships
   with people from different backgrounds.

1. Desire and ability to work with children.

1. Track record of building relationships with children, staff, volunteers, and parents.

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT: 

• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
• Attend required abuse risk management training.
• Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to respond to emergency situations.
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards 
  related to the activity.
