SAP ABAP Developer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a SAP ABAP Developer based in United States.

This role focuses on designing, developing, and supporting custom solutions across large enterprise SAP S/4HANA environments.
You will work across the full development lifecycle, from requirements analysis and technical design through coding, testing, optimization, and post-go-live support.
The position combines deep ABAP expertise with modern S/4HANA technologies, integrations, and Fiori-enabled applications.
You will help build scalable, high-performing solutions while applying clean-core principles to reduce technical debt and simplify future upgrades.
The role involves close collaboration with functional consultants, business stakeholders, and other technical teams to translate business needs into effective solutions.
You will also contribute to system conversions, modernization initiatives, security, governance, and performance improvements.
As an experienced technical contributor, you will have the opportunity to mentor developers and serve as a trusted technical resource within the SAP organization.

Accountabilities:

• Design and develop custom ABAP programs, enhancements, BAPIs, BADIs, user exits, and interfaces within SAP S/4HANA environments while following clean-core and modification-free principles.
• Build high-performance CDS views, AMDPs, and HANA-optimized ABAP solutions using code pushdown and S/4HANA in-memory capabilities.
• Develop and consume OData services and RESTful APIs supporting Fiori applications and integrations with non-SAP systems.
• Implement and maintain SAP Gateway services, including service registration, modeling, and lifecycle management.
• Develop classical and interactive ALV reports, Smart Forms, Adobe Forms, and modern Fiori-aligned output solutions.
• Build and maintain integrations using IDocs, RFC, BAPI, Web Services, and SAP API Hub.
• Analyze business requirements in collaboration with functional consultants and translate them into clear, documented technical designs.
• Perform unit testing, support functional and integration testing, and resolve defects identified during UAT and post-go-live hypercare.
• Lead performance tuning of ABAP code, SQL queries, and database access patterns using tools such as SAT, ST05, and HANA diagnostic capabilities.
• Support S/4HANA upgrades, system conversions, code remediation, SCMON/UPL analysis, and clean-core readiness assessments.
• Apply security best practices to custom developments, including authorization checks, secure data handling, and adherence to SAP governance requirements.
• Maintain technical specifications, code reviews, operational procedures, and other documentation according to enterprise standards.
• Mentor junior ABAP developers and provide technical guidance and expertise across the SAP development team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of professional ABAP development experience, including significant experience working with S/4HANA.
• Strong hands-on expertise with ABAP OO, CDS Views, AMDPs, and HANA-optimized ABAP.
• Solid experience developing OData services and integrating them with Fiori applications.
• Hands-on experience with SAP enhancement frameworks, including BADIs, user exits, and implicit/explicit enhancements.
• Strong experience with integration technologies such as IDocs, RFC, BAPI, and Web Services.
• Understanding of SAP module data structures, including FI/CO, SD, MM, or PP, depending on project requirements.
• Experience with ABAP performance optimization using SAT, ST05, and HANA diagnostic tools.
• Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager, ChaRM, and SAP transport management.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and technical documentation skills.
• Experience with S/4HANA system conversions or greenfield implementations is preferred.
• Exposure to SAP BTP, ABAP RAP, or Steampunk is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with Fiori/UI5 development is preferred.
• Familiarity with SAP CPI / Integration Suite is a plus.
• SAP-certified ABAP developer credentials are preferred.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with functional consultants, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
• 12+ years of overall professional experience is stated in the position profile, while the technical qualifications specify at least 5 years of professional ABAP development experience.
• Candidates must be currently living in the United States.

Benefits

• Annual salary range of $100,000–$165,000 USD.
