General Board of Higher Education and Ministry

The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) is the leadership development agency of The United Methodist Church; the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry prepares global leaders for a global church and the world. This position will be supervised by the Executive Director for Mission Engagement at GBGM/GBHEM and work closely with the General Secretary of GBGM/GBHEM and an advisory committee composed of UMC Bishops in Europe (or their designees) and general secretaries of the participating agencies, who will provide strategic directions for the position. Regular reporting and adherence to agreed‑upon timelines are expected.

About the Role

The Salesforce Manager serves as the enterprise owner and operational leader for the joint agency Salesforce ecosystem, with accountability for strategy, architecture, governance, delivery, and people leadership. Reporting to the Senior Director of IT, this role ensures Salesforce functions as a mission‑critical enterprise platform that advances agencies’ strategic priorities, data integrity, and long‑term scalability. The Salesforce Manager acts as a key member of IT leadership, translating organizational strategy into executable platform roadmaps; leading and supervising Salesforce staff and partners; and advising senior leadership on CRM, data, and enterprise platform capabilities. The role supports the agencies global mission and commitment to building an anti‑racist culture by establishing inclusive, ethical, and well‑governed data practices across the enterprise. 

Key Responsibilities:

Provide enterprise level leadership and direction for Salesforce, establishing platform vision, multi-year roadmap, architectural standards, and governance aligned with GBHEM and GBGM strategy and IT enterprise architecture.
Lead, supervise, and develop Salesforce personnel and long-term contractors, including staffing strategy, performance management, coaching, succession planning, and prioritization of work.
Oversee Salesforce architecture, configurations, integrations, and operational health, ensuring reliability, scalability, data integrity, security, and compliance across the enterprise.      
Direct enterprise reporting, dashboards, and analytics capabilities to support executive decision making, institutional effectiveness, and data driven strategy.
Champion enterprise adoption through training, change management, and continuous user experience improvement to maximize organizational value from Salesforce investments.
Partner with internal leaders, external agencies, and vendors to deliver enterprise initiatives; provide strategic oversight of vendors, implementation partners, and outsourced work
Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
Salesforce administration and enterprise platform architecture
Enterprise CRM strategy, governance, and lifecycle management
Relational data concepts, APIs, and cloud integrations
Security, compliance, and enterprise risk management
Vendor, contract, and budget oversight
Executive level reporting and analytics
SQL administration (preferred)
Familiarity with the United Methodist Church (preferred)
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise platforms in complex, mission driven organizations
Proven people leadership experience, including supervision and team development
Ability to operate effectively with autonomy
Strong executive communication and influence skills
Expertise in translating strategy into scalable technical solutions
Track record of delivering high complexity initiatives with organizational impact

Working Conditions:

Location: Work will be performed remotely. Our Remote Work Policy includes, but is not limited to the following: 

The Remote Worker must have an area designated as a workspace at the Remote Work Site. The remote work site shall mean the employee's residence, or any remote office location approved by the Agency.
The workspace should be maintained safely, free of hazards that might endanger the employee or agency equipment.
The existing rules on hours of work apply to Remote Workers. The supervisor works with the employee to determine a work schedule consistent with the requirements of the Agency.
Travel as needed (vehicle; airplane).
The Remote Worker must have Internet access of sufficient speed and bandwidth to support all activities required of their position. Provider, speed tests, and IP address information may be subject to review upon request by GBHEM IT staff.
Upon request, GBHEM shall provide the Remote Worker with the following equipment:

Laptop
Docking station
Up to two (2) monitors
Standard wireless keyboard and mouse
GBHEM approved software

GBHEM will provide a yearly stipend paid bi-weekly. Stipends may be used to cover home office    equipment, Internet service, and other costs related to working remotely. It is not intended to cover all costs, as these items would be for personal use as well as work-related.The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.  Involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting/training rooms, e.g. use of safe practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations, etc.

Hours: 37.5 hours weekly (Monday - Friday; flexible start/end time between 07:00 - 19:00) Requires work outside standard business hours and on weekends. Additionally, the person will be working with colleagues across multiple time zones, requiring flexibility. Work style: Extended periods of computer/virtual meeting work.
