As a Sales Associate, you’ll be part of the team that welcomes Mount Vernon’s one million annual visitors and helps create a shopping experience that is friendly, engaging, and memorable. Whether you’re helping a guest find the perfect gift, answering a question about a product, or making sure the shop looks its best, you’ll play an important role in the visitor experience.

What You'll Do

As a Sales Associate, you will:

• Provide exceptional, friendly, and efficient customer service to visitors from around the world.
• Help customers find merchandise, answer questions, and provide product information.
• Process sales accurately and efficiently while creating a welcoming experience for every customer.
• Keep merchandise organized, well-stocked, and attractively displayed throughout the shop.
• Monitor merchandise and promptly report damaged items, empty packages, or other concerns to the supervisor on duty.
• Communicate customer questions, requests, and concerns to the supervisor.
• Assist with inventory activities, including the annual retail inventory.
• Support the Stock Supervisor with ticketing, folding, and other merchandise-related tasks as needed.
• Help maintain clean, organized, and inviting sales areas through stocking, dusting, pricing, and general upkeep.
• Work collaboratively with fellow associates and supervisors to keep the shops running smoothly.
• Take on other duties and projects as needed to support the retail team.

• Previous retail or sales experience is preferred, but a strong customer-service mindset is essential.

Your Schedule

This is a part-time position consisting of full 8-hour shifts. Partial shifts are not available.

Most part-time associates work approximately 3 days per week, although schedules may vary between 2 and 4 days per week based on business needs.

Because our shops serve visitors throughout the week, weekend availability and a flexible schedule are required. We will work with you to establish two regular days off each week whenever possible.

Available shifts include:

• 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM
• 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM
• 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Most shifts end by 6:30 PM, and evening hours are uncommon and generally limited to special events.

What It's Like to Work Here

You'll spend your days in a unique retail environment surrounded by the history and beauty of George Washington's Mount Vernon. The work is active and customer-focused, with opportunities to interact with people from all over the world.

This position requires standing, walking, sitting, and using stairs for extended periods. Associates may occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds.

To help you become familiar with the place and mission you're representing, you'll have the opportunity to tour the Mansion and Museum and Education Center at least once each year.
