Shift: Days / 7am-4:30pm
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Pay Range:

$34.50 – $50.54 per hour 

The compensation range listed above represents the good-faith range Cary Medical Center anticipates relying upon when making an offer for this position. Starting pay is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and market conditions. 

Job Summary: 

Provides nursing care for infusion suite patients at the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner. The Cancer Center Infusion Suite Nurse is responsible for performing chemotherapy and infusion administration, patient and family education, symptom management and patient follow-up. The Infusion Suite Nurse maintains a working knowledge of cancer disease processes, treatments, prognoses, and complications.

Essential Job Duties:

• Administers care according to established nursing standards and hospital policy.
• Administers injections, chemotherapy drugs, blood transfusions, hydration and other medications as ordered by physician; all according to current protocol/standards.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill in safe handling and disposal of all drugs, including chemotherapy/ biotherapy agents. 
• Maintains a working knowledge of chemotherapy drugs and associated side effects.
• Demonstrates knowledge in the principles of chemotherapy/biotherapy administration.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill in IV Therapy administration and complications.
• Sends lab requisitions and communicate treatment needs with patients.
• Continuously evaluates patient response to medications and interventions.
• Takes responsibility for assuring that safe patient care is maintained including following established protocols and use of tools provided by the organization to ensure patient safety.
• Demonstrates a systematic approach to care and treatment.
• Supports multidisciplinary involvement in the plan of care. 
• Communicates in a timely and effective manner with physicians.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skill in vascular access device management. 
• Assessments and management of side effects.
• Educates patients and their family.
• Documents patient care in a complete manner. Documentation should include, but is not limited to: patient response to interventions, administration of medication, education provided and reception of it, side effects noted and treated. 
• Charges accurately for all Infusion Suite patients on JCCC charge sheet on day of service.
• Accurately documents on daily QM/Stat sheet with acuity, 1st day chemo, last day chemo, chair time, etc. 
• Assures that Infusion Suite schedule is maintained appropriately and efficiently. Provides front office staff with necessary information to schedule each patient.
• Documents and communicates any changes in patient schedule and treatment needs.
• Prepares weekly medication order list, communicates with pharmacy on medication schedules and patient rescheduling.
• Obtains new orders, flags orders in need of prior authorization, and completes chart prep appropriately. 
• Maintains supplies for Infusion Suite by using established par levels.
• Participates in orientation of new staff and students.
• Recognizes individual learning needs of coworkers and provide opportunities to their needs.
• Responds appropriately to workload changes during the shift.
• Actively participates in evaluating the quality of nursing care provided and patient care outcomes.
• Recognizes own needs and take initiative to set measurable goals for professional growth and development. 
• Demonstrates responsibility and accountability.
• Displays excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, physicians, patients and their families.
• Displays knowledge and use of aseptic techniques and infection control principles. 
• Performs effectively in highly stressful situations. 
• Provides compassionate care to the hematology and oncology patient population.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.

Requirements

Education or License: 

• Maintains current Registered Nurse licensure for the State of Maine.
• Maintain current BLS certification.
• ACLS certification recommended.
• Obtain Chemotherapy and Biotherapy provider card within 6 months of hire.
• Oncology Certified Nurse certification is recommended.

Availability: 

• Depending on department staffing needs, you may be asked to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
