Revenue Cycle Analyst (System Application Analyst)

Department Overview

The Revenue Cycle Analyst supports the Revenue Cycle team tasked with improving revenue results by taking a global view of clinical and financial processes, functions and system interdependencies from the provision of patient care to final bill generation. This position provides technical expertise in the analysis, design, build, and support of the Epic HB Resolute application. This position supports complex clinical departments and practices and acts with a high degree of autonomy, performs various audits with a focus on revenue cycle integrity.  

Function/Duties of Position

System Analysis and Design

• Overall system analysis, design, validation, implementation, troubleshooting and ongoing design of the Epic Hospital Resolute application & Craneware system.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the key applications supporting patient access (Resolute HB, Charge Router) and how they integrate with other Epic Applications. Tests application build to ensure the system meets end-user requirements. 
• Design, develop and document new system application functionality and/or clinical/operational workflows to support the documentation requirements for accurate and compliant charge capture.  Develop test plans and conduct testing, analyze results to minimize deficiencies and complete implementation plans.
• Assist in the design and development of systems or workflow interfaces.

System Maintenance

• Participate in the ongoing maintenance of the Epic Resolute Hospital Billing application. Thoroughly document and understand departments business processes and how Epic applications support these processes.
• Perform periodic analysis of existing system application functionality and/ or clinical/operational workflows to identify system or process deficiencies, work with key partners in improvement process activities and implementation. Develops test plans and conducts testing.
• Utilize financial and analytical expertise to promote revenue integrity by extracting and manipulating financial and clinical data from a variety of data sources.
• Monitor productivity, charge lag and charge volume using various Epic system tools and reports.  Identify and help prevent backlogs and other impediments to working charge review and charge router review work queues. Generate reports to identify and communicate pending charge issues and assists departments when needed.  Responsible for identifying and escalating issues related to pending charges, late charges, revenue opportunities or revenue integrity concerns.
• Timely resolution of WQs and attention to root cause resolution to prevent ongoing charge lag issues.
• Perform periodic training and education to department managers and staff on revenue cycle related topics particularly around the areas of charge entry and use of charge codes for their respective areas.

Collaboration & Support

• Liaison between clinical areas, Hospital Financial Services, Information Technology Group and Patient Business Services on all activities within the Charge Capture Function, including: charge entry, charge router processing, cost center assignment, charge reconciliation, monitoring of late charges and management of missing elements.
• Work collaboratively with clinical areas, Financial Services, Health Information Services, Information Technology Group, and Charge Master Analysts to identify and resolve charging issues and revenue opportunities when applicable.  
• Participate in workflow meetings and facilitate as requested.
• Maintain current understanding of billing regulations and be able to provide departments with updates on changes to billing codes and requirements.
• Serve as a member of the Revenue Cycle Team.  Promote a customer service focus.
• Participate in Revenue Cycle projects as directed by Revenue Integrity Assistant Director and Director.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and 2 years' work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and 4 years' work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

• Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and 5 years' work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

• 6 years' work related experience in the information technology field or a 

  combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

• Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
• Working knowledge of hospital operations and the patient care process.
• Advanced skills and working knowledge of Excel.
• Demonstrated experience with data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Epic Certification.

• Experience implementing an Integrated Enterprise Hospital System (Admitting, Scheduling, Billing, CPOE, Documentation, etc) preferably Epic.
• Experience implementing technology that promoted fundamental changes in hospital settings.
• Ability to work in a highly autonomous role by demonstrating self-motivation and creativity in design approach.
• Ability to function effectively in a very dynamic team environment.
• Ability to proactively pursue problem resolution to satisfy customer needs.
• Ability to manage multiple complex tasks efficiently while successfully meeting assigned deadlines.
• Ability to work with users to accurately assess and diagnose system problems as defined by the user.
• Ability to manage comprehensive data and worksheets.

• Working knowledge of Epic Resolute Hospital Billing application.

• Current Epic Resolute Hospital Billing certifications.
