Retention Strategist Director

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Retention Strategist Director based in United States.

The Retention Strategist Director will lead strategic retention efforts for large defined contribution and total retirement solution clients. This role combines client strategy, sales leadership, proposal development, and executive-level presentations. You will work cross-functionally with relationship management, sales, administration, strategic relations, and RFP teams. The position requires a strong understanding of retirement solutions, financial services, competitive dynamics, and client needs. You will guide complex retention opportunities from strategy development through proposals, negotiations, and final presentations. This is a highly collaborative role with significant visibility and an opportunity to influence long-term client relationships and business outcomes.

Accountabilities:

• Lead and supervise the end-to-end client retention process, coordinating RFPs, finalist presentations, proposals, negotiations, and related sales activities.
• Develop client-specific retention strategies and solutions based on detailed knowledge of client objectives, needs, competitive positioning, and market conditions.
• Own retention sales efforts for large defined contribution and total retirement solution clients with $200M+ in assets under management.
• Build and manage strong internal relationships across relationship management, administration, sales, strategic relations, and RFP teams.
• Oversee the development and delivery of proposals to clients, consultants, and advisors, including customized finalist presentations using effective visual storytelling.
• Provide senior management with timely, accurate, and concise analysis of retention status, performance, opportunities, and risks.
• Develop a thorough understanding of pricing, contracting, operational requirements, plan designs, and internal processes to support successful retention strategies.
• Provide relevant market and competitive intelligence and use client knowledge to strategically position solutions.
• Mentor and coach service teams while contributing to the development of sales and retention capabilities.
• Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and lead highly sophisticated RFP and client engagement processes.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• 10+ years of retirement sales or customer care experience, with strong technical expertise in defined contribution, defined benefit, executive benefits, or a combination of these areas.
• Strong knowledge of the retirement industry, portfolio construction, capital markets, financial services products, and applicable regulations.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience evaluating pricing and different retirement plan designs.
• Proven ability to project manage highly complex projects and RFPs while working effectively with senior executives and key decision makers.
• Strong relationship-building, influencing, negotiation, and alliance-building skills across multiple organizational levels.
• Demonstrated competitive drive, determination, and ability to deliver measurable business results.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and sales-process leadership skills.
• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with the ability to contribute knowledge and support collective success.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with peers, executives, clients, consultants, and advisors in a variety of professional settings.
• Willingness to travel as required.
• FINRA Series 6 license required, or ability to obtain it within five months; current licensing is strongly preferred and applicable registration standards must be met.
• Must become a non-registered fingerprint person of PSI.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future immigration sponsorship, including F1-OPT, F1-CPT, H-1B, TN, L-1, or J-1 sponsorship.

Benefits:

• Targeted base salary of $141,000–$191,000 per year, with actual compensation determined by factors including geographic location, experience, education, licensure, and skill level.
• Eligibility for sales incentives and, in some cases, a bonus plan, with total compensation potentially exceeding base salary based on individual performance.
