In-Home Respite RN/LPN (PRN)

The role of a Specialized Respite Nurse is to offer one-on-one time between a child and licensed nurse within the family’s home or community.  Respite care is designed to give families a break from the day-to-day care involved in raising a child with special healthcare needs.  ChildServe’s respite service allows parents to attend events for their other children, schedule appointments for themselves, or simply take time to recharge.
 

Schedule 

1:1 Respite: Primarily afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Can be regularly scheduled or as needed.  

Group: Available F-Sun typically 10–12-hour shifts. High need on Saturday 12-hour shifts. 

What You’ll Do 

• Provide one-on-one nursing support in the home or community.
• Interact with the child and participate in fun activities.
• Complete electronic documentation and paper MARS
• Possible skills used: medication administration, g-tube nutrition, seizure management, trach cares, etc.

What You’ll Need 

• Graduate of accredited nursing program
• Current valid RN/LPN license in Iowa
• Documentation of CPR/BLS certification
• Valid driver’s license/insurance for three consecutive years without suspension
• Experience working with children with special health care needs preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, be mobile within the assigned work area, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand. 
• Ability to communicate effectively in (or through) reading, writing and speaking the English language.
