Special Needs Caregiver – Before & After School Support
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Schedule: Before & After School
Compensation: $17.00/hour
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable caregiver experienced in supporting individuals with special needs, including autism spectrum disorder, non-verbal communication, and Sanfilippo Syndrome. The ideal candidate provides patient, structured, and individualized care that helps each child thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Support morning and after-school routines (dressing, hygiene, breakfast, transitions, snack, and structured activities).
- Maintain routine and consistency to reduce anxiety and promote comfort.
- Use visual supports such as picture schedules and charts to aid understanding.
- Apply positive reinforcement to encourage communication and progress.
- Create a calm environment and reduce sensory overload when needed.
- Demonstrate patience and flexibility, adapting to each child’s unique needs.
- Support participation in educational, recreational, and community activities.
- Assist with daily living skills, personal hygiene, and transportation as needed.
- Accurately document services provided, maintaining compliance with CMS, DODD, OOD, and CARF standards.
- Ensure a safe and respectful environment, upholding dignity and person-centered values.
- Teach new hard and soft skills and provide input for Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
Qualifications
- Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder, non-verbal communication, or developmental disabilities.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to compassion, safety, and consistency in care.
