The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Respiratory Therapist (CRRT) is a specialized allied health professional who designs and implements customized treatment plans for patients with chronic heart and lung conditions. They evaluate respiratory function, monitor vitals during therapeutic exercises, and manage equipment like oxygen therapies and ventilators to improve patients' overall quality of life.

Core Responsibilities

Patient Assessment: Conduct initial evaluations and ongoing physical assessments, including measuring blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels before, during, and after exercise.
Cardiac Monitoring: Interpret ECG to monitor heart rhythms and watch for signs of exercise intolerance, arrhythmias, or ischemia.
Patient Education: Develop individualized recovery plans and educate patients/families on heart-healthy habits, medications, and diet.
Emergency Response: Prepare for and initiate ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and emergency care protocols if patients experience adverse cardiac events.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with a wider medical team, including exercise physiologists, dietitians, and cardiologists.

Minimum Required Experience: None
Preferred Experience: One year critical care or cardiac care experience as an RT

Education:

Minimum Required Education: Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree).
Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care:

Licenses:

Minimum Required Licenses: KSBHA license
Minimum Required Credentials: Certified Respiratory Therapist from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
Preferred Credentials: Registered Respiratory Therapy from the NBRC.
Preferred Licenses: N/A

Certifications: 

Minimum Required: BLS, ACLS
