Role Summary

Are you a Resident Engineer in Highway Construction with Buildings experience supporting construction and inspection of commercial and small-building projects? If so, Boswell has unique opportunities for you in Central New Jersey (around the PNC Art Center).

These positions are ideal for hands-on construction professionals with experience inspecting building construction, reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating with contractors and project teams, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.

These Resident Engineers will work closely with clients, contractors, engineers, architects, and other project stakeholders to monitor construction progress, identify issues, document field conditions, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with contract documents.

Key Responsibilities

Perform field inspections of commercial, institutional, and small-building construction projects
Monitor construction activities for compliance with approved plans, specifications, applicable building codes, and project requirements
Review construction plans, drawings, specifications, and submittals to support field inspection activities
Document daily construction activities, site conditions, progress, deficiencies, and corrective actions
Identify potential construction issues and communicate findings to project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients
Review contractor work, materials, and installation methods for conformance with project requirements
Attend and participate in pre-construction, progress, coordination, and project close-out meetings
Coordinate with contractors, architects, engineers, owners, and municipal representatives as needed
Review contractor payment applications and verify quantities and completed work where applicable
Assist with project documentation, punch lists, close-out activities, and as-built information
Support quality assurance and quality control efforts throughout the construction process
Maintain accurate inspection records, photographs, reports, and project documentation
Provide technical guidance and field support to project teams as needed and travel to active project sites

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Engineering, or a related field is preferred
10+ years of relevant experience in building construction, construction inspection, construction management, or a related field
Demonstrated experience with commercial buildings and/or small-building construction projects
Experience working on NJTA (New Jersey Turnpike Authority) projects is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of building construction methods, materials, plans, specifications, and construction sequencing
Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, MEP, and construction drawings
Familiarity with applicable New Jersey and international building codes, construction standards, and inspection requirements
PE license is preferred but not required.
Construction, inspection, engineering, or industry certifications are a plus
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with contractors, clients, architects, engineers, public officials, and other project stakeholders
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

Pay Transparency: In accordance with local law, the range below is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Actual compensation will vary based on specific relevant experience, education, certifications, and other compensable factors. 

Hourly Range: $50.00 - $75.00 / Hour   (eligible for Overtime pay)
