Research Scientist, Health Economic Modeling

The Research Scientist, Health Economic Modeling will contribute to innovative health economics and evidence synthesis projects supporting pharmaceutical and biotech clients. You’ll work alongside health economists, statisticians, and researchers on projects spanning cost-effectiveness and budget impact analyses, early economic evaluations, and treatment sequencing. The role combines quantitative modeling, evidence review, programming, analysis, and scientific communication. You’ll help develop models and study deliverables that inform health technology assessment submissions and payer decision-making. The position offers exposure to complex methodological challenges within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. It is well suited to a self-directed professional who enjoys analytical problem-solving, continuous learning, and translating research into practical insights.

Accountabilities:

• Conduct targeted literature reviews to identify and summarize model inputs, methodologies, and evidence used in previous health technology assessments, while identifying key considerations for new model development.
• Support senior team members in conceptualizing and designing cost-effectiveness models, budget impact models, treatment sequencing analyses, and other health economic evaluations.
• Program, parameterize, validate, and maintain economic models, primarily using Microsoft Excel and VBA, and conduct analyses to assess model outputs and implications.
• Interpret study findings and translate complex analytical results into clear insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to client-ready deliverables, including model protocols, economic models, slide decks, technical reports, and peer-reviewed publications, under the guidance of senior team members.
• Perform detailed quality checks on your own work and, where appropriate, review the work of colleagues to help ensure accurate, consistent, and high-quality outputs.
• Support project delivery by collaborating with team members, monitoring assigned project components, and proactively communicating changes to expected timelines or required effort.
• Contribute to client management by preparing presentation materials, participating in client calls, drafting meeting minutes, and summarizing decisions and action items.
• Communicate with clients as needed and support senior team members in responding to client questions and requests.
• Share knowledge with colleagues, contribute to methodological discussions, and continuously develop expertise in health economics and outcomes research.

Requirements:

• 2–4 years of professional experience, ideally in consulting or research environments serving pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare, or related clients, with a focus on health economics and outcomes research.
• A Master’s degree in a relevant health services research discipline, such as health economics, public policy, health policy, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), with the ability to develop and work with economic models.
• Strong analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate evidence, identify relevant insights, and apply findings to health economic analyses.
• Experience preparing clear written documentation and presenting analytical results using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and study findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage project components and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.
• A willingness to learn, share knowledge, and contribute to a diverse and multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively while maintaining strong attention to detail and quality.
• A PhD in a relevant health services research or scientific discipline is advantageous.
• Proficiency in R or R Shiny is advantageous, as is a track record of relevant peer-reviewed publications.
