Registered Nurse Wound Care Center

POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse position is responsible to the Manager and Nursing Supervisor for activities that include, but are not limited to, utilization of skills in organization, planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing care as it relates to the specific needs of the patient. Nurses work within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follow Wound Care Centers, INC, and Medical Center policies and procedures. The Nurse complies with Medical Center and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. The Nurse will support the goals and objectives of the Wound Center and of Mount Nittany Medical Center. The Nurse will provide coverage for operation of the hyperbaric chamber as directed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience:

1. Two years clinical experience.
2. Medical surgical, home health, or wound care experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

2. Language Ability: Ability to write reports and to effectively respond to questions from clients, customers, and the general public.
3. Math Ability: Ability to perform basis math skills.
4. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of practical problems.
5. Computer Skills: Must be able to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

License/Certification/Registration:

1. Registered Nurse with current license.
2. Wound Care Certification preferred.
3. Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) or Certified Wound Care Associate (CWCA) obtained within 39 Months of hire/transfer date.
4. Meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.
5. Within four months from the hire/transfer date, meets the American Heart Association’s standards for Healthcare Provider Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and renews ACLS every two years.

Responsibilities



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Provides direct patient care 
   1. Provides case management for patients.
   2. Provides specific assessments according to protocols and procedures, clinical competence in procedural skills, treatments, and patient/caregiver education related to wound care management. 
   3. Acts as patient advocate in the delivery and coordination of patient care.
2. Plans and Organizes 
   1. Provides efficient and effective care with the guidance of the physician during clinic sessions. 
   2. Attends scheduled clinics and can be counted on to be dependable. 
   3. Manages multiple patients at the same time with high energy and organization.
3. Collaborates / Communicates / Follow-ups 
   1. Collaborates with other health care providers, wound care center physicians, Program Director and Medical Director, regarding clinic and patient needs.
   2. Effectively communicates with others, both verbally and in writing. 
   3. Monitors the cases of patients for whom the Nurse is responsible.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
