Our blended RN and Respiratory Therapist (RRT) team is the only vascular access team in the country that spans the full continuum of care — from NICU through geriatric populations — serving both inpatient and outpatient settings.

This is not your typical PICC line program. Our team manages a high range of specialty vascular devices and responds to complex, emergent vascular needs across the hospital. As a Vascular Access Specialist, you will be responsible for:

• Placement and management of ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs
• Insertion and care of dialysis catheters
• Response to and management of emergent vascular access needs
• Placement of a broad range of specialty vascular devices beyond standard PICC lines
• Providing expert vascular access support across all patient populations — NICU, pediatric, adult, and geriatric
• Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team of RNs and RRTs
• Serving as a clinical resource and expert for nursing staff throughout the facility
• Occasional float coverage to Fort Collins in emergent situations as needed

Required:

• Active Colorado RN License (or compact license eligibility)
• Minimum 1 year of bedside nursing experience
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Comfort working independently in a fast-paced, emergent environment
• Ability to work 2x 12 hour night shifts per week(6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)

Preferred:

• Prior vascular access experience (PICC, ultrasound-guided IV, central line)
• Experience across multiple patient populations (NICU, peds, adult, geriatric)
• VAT (Vascular Access Team) or CRNI / VA-BC certification
• Experience with specialty vascular devices

Our vascular access team is a close-knit group of 13–14 specialists, comprised primarily of Registered Nurses with several Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs). What makes us exceptional:

POSITION SUMMARY
This provides basic and advanced vascular access for patients, following accepted nursing practices, Banner Health policies and procedures, and physician's prescriptions. Provides consultation to clinicians regarding all aspects of vascular access.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Performs age appropriate nursing process within the scope of practice as defined by the respective State Board of Nursing. Assessments include physical, psychological, social, discharge and educational needs. Practice is evidence-based.

2. Assesses patients for best vascular access options and collaboratively develops the best plan of care for the patient and family.

3. Places Peripherally Inserted Central and Midline Catheters using Microseldinger Technique (MST). May support clinical staff with difficult peripheral intravenous catheters.

4. Proficient in the use of ultrasound guidance and other technologic advancements to gain vascular access. Utilizes technology adjuncts with procedures, as indicated.

5. Assists with vascular access troubleshooting and malfunctioning as needed.

6. Documents all aspects of care on appropriate documentation forms.

7. Serves as a facilitator of learning for patients, family, and colleagues. Coordinates and involves patient/family and other disciplines as needed in discharge planning.

8. Demonstrates effective leadership. Serves as a member of Banner Health quality improvement teams. Collaboratively develops system-wide initiatives to help improve patient and family outcomes. Analyzes PICC-specific data to identify focus areas. Provides and utilizes evidence based practice in all patient encounters and actively participates in both nursing and general research.

9. Works independently to provide excellent patient care. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be licensed to practice professional nursing in the applicable state of practice.

Must have at least two years of acute care hospital experience. Must be proficient in vascular access options to patients across the lifespan (age 12 and older) and severity of illness. Must be proficient in performing basic insertion of vascular access devices. Demonstrates effective communication skills, problem solving and conflict resolution in the management of PICC lines, keeping the appropriate people informed.

Estimated Pay Range:

$37.91 - $63.19 / hour

This range is based on possible base salaries and does not include the value of our total rewards package.
