Registered Nurse (RN) Medical/ Surgical Units

Inova Alexandria Hospital is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurses to join the Medical/Surgical, Medical Oncology and Orthopedic teams. This is for Full-time Day Shift 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 pm;  Full-time Night Shift 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 am; Part-time day shift 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 pm or Part-time Night Shift 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 am   | Monday – Friday (including some weekend shifts) Sign-on & Relocation Assistance Available for Eligible Nurses. 

Shifts: All (Full-time Day shift, Full-time Night shift)

Specialty Areas: Inpatient Medical/Surgical, Medical Oncology and Orthopedic Surgical units only

We are looking to hire for the following units:

• Medical Surgical: divided by North and South, this unit specializes in adult population with medical issues like renal failure, diabetes, respiratory, GI, pre-op and post-op male urology cases, dementia.
• Orthopedic Surgical: 24 bed adult medical unit, providing 24-hour nursing care to adult and geriatric patient populations with a variety of diagnosis. The Joint Commission certifies as a Joint Replacement Center of Excellence, specializing in knee and hip replacements and repair. Patients may be admitted following a surgical procedure, acute illness or injury or if recovering from diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. 
• Medical Oncology: 25 beds unit, providing care to oncology patients as well as cardiac Cath lab, respiratory, sepsis, infectious decease patients. The patient population is 18 years old and older with a patient/nurse ratio of 5-6 to 1.

The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patients, families, nurses and healthcare delivery teams. Consistently provides safe and therapeutic care in a holistic and systematic way while incorporating differences into the provision of care and conducting all patient care in a patient/family centered manner. Integrates knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum, to include patient and family education. Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with others while having respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines. Determines processes for delivery of care from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships
• Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice
• Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care
• Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues
• Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning
• Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation
• Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care
• Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members
• Communicates effectively, works cooperatively with others, and has respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines
• Assists staff to assess patients' learning needs and outcomes measurement of patient education
• Provides direction and guidance to others regarding practice while serving as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor and delegates patient care activities and coordinates unit activities as needed
• Utilizes standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery and ensures that the process for delivery of care is synthesized from direct patient/family communication, technology and other healthcare team member collaboration
• Demonstrates evidence of self-development by obtaining a minimum of six formal contact hours and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
• Evaluates clinical and quality outcomes and contributes to performance improvement initiatives
• May perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

Experience: A minimum of 1 year of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting
Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date 
Certification: BLS from American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensure: RN Licensed or eligible to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Preferred qualifications: 1-2 years of Medical/Surgical experience
