Outpatient Registered Nurse (Per Diem)New York, NY

About the Position:

The registered nurse is responsible for the medical and health related management of clients, including completing assessments and documentation, administering Naltrexone and Buprenorphine Injections, and making proper adjustments as required. The registered nurse will monitor withdrawal symptoms, response to medications, vital signs, and will communicate and document findings and concerns to MD/APRN/Treatment Team. The nurse will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to promote the best care of clients.

Schedule: 

Per diem: 8-16 hours per week

Your Role:

• Identifies client care requirements by establishing personal rapport with clients and other persons as appropriate to meet pre-determined goals. 
• Administer Naltrexone and Buprenorphine injections.
• Ensure that all interventions are documented in the electronic health record.
• Cultivates a compassionate environment by providing emotional, and support to clients in a culturally sensitive manner, while maintaining professional boundaries. 
• Promotes client’s steps toward sobriety and recovery by establishing client care goals within treatment plan, educating client to understand substance abuse and withdrawal.  
• Support ancillary staff to ensure unit standards and rules are maintained.  
• Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments to plan of care; following Mountainside’s mission and standards of care set by state board of nursing, OASAS, ASAM, DPH, CARF, TJC, and other governing agency regulations. 
• Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel. 
• Protects client and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. 
• Maintains continuity among the treatment team by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs through comprehensive reporting.  
• Maintains client confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential per HIPPA regulations. 
• Assists with maintenance of nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; alerting the Program Manager to supply needs; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. 
• Performs waived testing and Quality Controls for Waived testing per policy and protocol 
• Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods. 
• Completes appropriate documentation and assessments associated with administering Naltrexone and Buprenorphine Injects.   
• Records patient observations and activities in patient records accurately and timely in accordance with nursing standards and organizational policy and procedure each shift. 
• Monitor and assess client symptoms and intervene as necessary to promote the safety and wellbeing of clients.  
• Assesses and/or is alert for signs and symptoms of emerging medical or psychiatric complications and communicates findings/concerns to MD/Advanced Practitioner and other members of the treatment team. 
• Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through assigned objectives or as directed by management. 
• Communicate effectively with client’s family when appropriate and offer education and support within HIPPA guidelines.  
• Reports to the Program Manager/ Nursing Leadership regarding care of the clients and operation of the Outpatient location 
• Prepare for, and actively participate in daily rounds. 
• Adapt to changes within the program, while maintaining OPS locations rules and safety of clients and staff.  
• Assist in crisis situations while maintaining safety of clients and staff.  

 Qualifications:

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred
• Current active NY license as a registered nurse 
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider certification
• Minimum of one-year experience in Nursing required 
• Experience with both general medical and psychiatric populations
• Experience with administering Naltrexone and Buprenorphine Injections 
• Experience working in a behavioral health setting 

Compensation:

The base rate of pay for this position is $40.00 to $45.00 per hour. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
