Registered Nurse, Lactation

Job Summary

Per Diem Position

Responsible for providing education and training to patients, staff and community regarding breastfeeding.

Duties & Responsibilities

1.    Performs rounds on breastfeeding mothers to reinforce and augment teaching.   
Follows up with telephone call to patient within three to four days after discharge. 

2.    Function as resource person to patients, physicians, nurses, hospital staff in general, and to HME for their breastfeeding product station.

3.    Coordinates and implements pre-natal breastfeeding classes, as well as provides staff education and information.

4.    Conducts home/hospital visits and/or continued telephone consultation after discharge as warranted.

5.    Maintains documentation and statistics.
6.    Reviews and evaluates breastfeeding policies, procedures, equipment, videos, products and literature with recommendations as necessary.

7.    Maintains communication with community support groups and refers patients to them.

8.    Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required. RI State RN Licensure and RI State Lactation Consultant Certificate required.  RN- IBCLC is also required.
