POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) is an essential member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team and plays a critical role in delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality nursing care across PHRI programs, including inpatient, residential, and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) services.

The RN is responsible for assessing patients' physical and behavioral health needs, administering and monitoring medications, supporting individualized treatment plans, responding to changes in patient conditions, and collaborating closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to holistic, patient-centered care. Experience in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing is preferred; however, newly registered nurses with strong clinical foundations and a genuine interest in behavioral health are encouraged to apply.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments to evaluate the physical and mental health status of patients within the assigned program.

• Administer medications safely and accurately; monitor patient responses, therapeutic effects, and potential adverse reactions; and communicate relevant findings to the treatment team.

• Monitor vital signs, behavioral and mental health symptoms, and overall patient well-being throughout the program.

• Recognize and respond promptly and appropriately to changes in patient condition, including psychiatric and behavioral health crises.

• Establish therapeutic and professional relationships with patients that promote trust, engagement, recovery, and overall well-being.

• Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

• Provide health education to patients and families on medication management, symptom recognition, disease management, coping strategies, wellness, and self-care.

• Assist in facilitating educational and therapeutic groups on relevant physical and behavioral health topics.

• Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.

• Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, treatment planning, and clinical discussions.

• Provide timely nursing interventions during psychiatric or behavioral health crises and collaborate with the treatment team to promote patient safety.

• Maintain accurate, complete, timely, and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR) in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Ensure timely completion of clinical documentation, reports, and other required records.

• Communicate significant changes in patient status, treatment response, safety concerns, and other relevant clinical information to the appropriate members of the treatment team.

• Adhere to established clinical protocols, infection prevention and control practices, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

• Participate in continuing education, training, quality improvement initiatives, and other professional development activities.

• Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with the role and organizational needs.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington, D.C.

• Previous experience in psychiatric nursing, behavioral health, mental health, or a related clinical setting is preferred.

• Newly registered nurses are encouraged to apply. Candidates with strong clinical foundations, sound judgment, professionalism, and a demonstrated interest in behavioral health will be considered.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and other standard computer applications.

• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is preferred.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable healthcare privacy and regulatory requirements.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

PREFERRED CANDIDATE PROFILE

For newly registered nurses, prior psychiatric nursing experience is not required. We value candidates who demonstrate:
