Registered Behavior Technician

This role is a great fit for individuals with experience working with children, including babysitting, nannying, childcare, education, or other pediatric settings. We also encourage applicants who have completed coursework in psychology, nursing, education, social services, or related fields.

Position Overview

As an RBT/BT, you will provide one-on-one, in-home ABA therapy to children and families. You will implement individualized treatment plans and behavior intervention programs developed by a supervising BCBA to help clients develop meaningful skills and increase independence.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized, one-on-one ABA services in clients' homes.
• Implement behavior intervention and skill-acquisition programs developed by supervising BCBAs.
• Teach communication, social, play, self-help, and daily living skills.
• Implement strategies designed to decrease behaviors that may interfere with a client's safety, learning, or independence, which may include hitting, biting, kicking, or other challenging behaviors.
• Follow behavior support plans and treatment protocols with consistency and treatment integrity.
• Collect accurate and timely session data and complete required documentation.
• Monitor and communicate client progress and concerns to the supervising BCBA.
• Collaborate with BCBAs, families, and other members of the client's care team.
• Support and coach families by helping them understand and implement appropriate strategies within the home environment.
• Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality, and a respectful approach when working with clients and families.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for the clients we serve.
• Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development.

Qualifications

• Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification in good standing OR an interest in obtaining RBT certification.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Experience working with children is strongly encouraged. Experience may include babysitting, nannying, childcare, education, behavioral services, or other pediatric settings.
• Coursework or experience in psychology, education, nursing, social services, behavioral science, or a related field is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with BCBAs, families, and other team members.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and implement individualized treatment plans consistently.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and a commitment to client care.
• Valid driver's license.
• Reliable transportation to travel to clients' homes.
• Active auto insurance listing you as a covered driver.
• Current negative TB test required.

Physical and Cognitive Requirements

• This position involves working directly with children in home-based environments and may require frequent movement and active participation in client activities.
• Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and transition between floor-level and standing positions throughout sessions.
• Participate in developmentally appropriate activities, including floor-based play, movement activities, transitions, and other activities designed to promote client skill development.
• Maintain awareness of the client's environment and respond appropriately to safety concerns or changes in client behavior.
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or move therapy materials and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.
• Use hands and fingers to operate computers, keyboards, mobile devices, and other equipment requiring fine motor coordination.
• Maintain visual and auditory awareness to observe client behavior, monitor safety, and communicate effectively.
• Read, understand, retain, and apply written and verbal information, including treatment plans, behavior protocols, training materials, and company policies.
• Maintain attention, concentration, situational awareness, and sound judgment while working in dynamic home environments.
• Collect, record, and submit accurate client data and session documentation.
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive client and family information.
• Demonstrate patience, professionalism, and emotional resilience when responding to challenging behaviors, sensitive situations, or client and family concerns.
• Safely navigate and work within a variety of home environments and adjust to the individual needs of each client.

Incentive Pay Structure

• Ad Astra provides opportunities for additional compensation based on applicable performance, availability, and credentialing requirements.
• $1/hour increase after maintaining consistent availability for 90 consecutive days, subject to applicable program requirements.
• Additional $1/hour increase for maintaining active RBT certification and demonstrating strong performance.
• Specific eligibility requirements for incentive increases will be communicated during the hiring and onboarding process.

Cancellation Policy

We value and protect our RBTs'/BTs' time. If a client cancels within 30 minutes of the scheduled session start time, or if you have already departed for the session, you will receive up to two hours of paid cancellation time, subject to applicable company policy.

We also monitor frequent client cancellations and work to adjust schedules when possible to help protect technician schedules and promote stable, consistent hours.

Training and Professional Growth

At Ad Astra, we believe that quality ABA services begin with well-trained and supported team members. Individuals who are new to ABA can receive the 40-hour RBT training needed to pursue RBT certification, along with ongoing training and support. Certified RBTs have opportunities to receive supervision from BCBAs and continue developing their clinical skills.
