Summary
The Referral Specialist is responsible for managing timely specialist and procedural referrals in accordance with insurance and provider specifications. They must also maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with HIPAA laws and accreditation requirements.
Job Description
The Referral Specialist/HIS Clerk is responsible for seeing that timely specialist/procedural referrals are made which follow that patient’s insurance and referring provider’s specifications.
Qualifications:
- Understands and has the ability to demonstrate the importance of exemplary customer service.
- Ability to exercise critical thinking skills, multi-task, take initiative, and take ownership to follow through with responsibilities according to established policies and procedures.
- Ability to work cooperatively as a productive member of a team.
- Ability to use multi-line phone system, computer systems, and general office equipment.
- Ability to type proficiently and understand the keyboard. Trustworthiness and accuracy in money-handling.
- Ability to adapt to change and new technologies to perform successfully.
- Ability to comply with HIPAA laws and accreditation requirements.
- Ability to correspond and access databases preferred.
