Reddit has quietly become one of the most trusted places on the internet. Before people buy almost anything today, they go to Reddit for honest, unfiltered opinions from real people, and those threads consistently rank at the top of Google. For a brand, that is a large opportunity and a real risk at the same time. Most brands have no idea how to show up. The ones that try usually get it wrong. They spam a few subreddits, watch their posts get removed and end up hurting the reputation they came to build.

We take the opposite approach. Everything we do is white-hat and fully in the open. We represent a brand as itself, or as a named member of its team, and we earn attention by being genuinely useful in the conversations that matter. No fake accounts and no pretending to be someone we are not.

Our work for a client comes in two halves. First, we join the conversations that are already happening across their space: people asking for recommendations, weighing them against competitors, describing the exact problem the brand solves and gathering in the subreddits where their customers already spend time. Second, we build the brand a home of its own. We set up, grow and run a subreddit that becomes their community over time. Our proprietary platform does the monitoring and prioritization behind both. Real people do the writing and the judgment, and that human part is where you come in.

The role

As a Reddit Community Manager, you own a client's presence on Reddit. You run both their branded Reddit accounts (e.g. u/personname_at_brandname) and their subreddit (e.g. r/brandname), and you are the voice that represents them in the communities that matter to them.

This is not paid advertising. It is earning a trusted place in a community, on behalf of a brand you would be proud to represent. Doing it well starts with understanding the client deeply: what they sell, who buys it and how they talk about themselves. From there, you use our platform to surface every conversation worth joining, and you bring the Reddit judgment for how to show up the right way once you are in it.

The objective is the same for every client, and it is simple to state and hard to earn: make the brand a welcome, trusted member of the communities it belongs in, and build genuine goodwill around it over months, not days.

This is a part-time, freelance role, and there are no fixed hours. The only thing to plan for is one to two hours of meetings a week: with me and the rest of the Outpost team, with our engineers (the people building the platform you rely on), and sometimes with your client, especially early on while you are still learning their brand and voice.

A note on this specific posting: this is an evergreen, open-application role. We're always looking for people who are clearly a great fit and keeping them ready for the right client. So we may want to interview you soon, or not for a while, even if you are an obvious fit. Please do not take the silence personally. Once you are in our talent pool and a client shows up whose world matches your interests and background, we bring you in to manage them. We care a lot about pairing each client with the right marketer, so the wait is really just about finding that match. It is also why I ask so many questions when you apply. The more we know now, the faster we can place you.

What the work actually looks like

The work comes in three parts. How much time it takes scales with the client: a smaller client is a few hours a week, a busy one is more (and pays more).

• Community engagement. This is the core. You work from a prioritized thread queue our platform ranks for you, so you are not scrolling Reddit all day, and you show up in the ones that matter: commenting, posting and running the occasional AMA on the brand's behalf, including the threads where your brand is being compared or talked about negatively. Everything is disclosed, and it is approved before it goes live. When a high-priority thread breaks, you are in it fast, ideally within the hour and at the latest within 24 hours. That speed is the one hard expectation of the role.

• Community growth. You help build and run the client's own subreddit: turning the threads already ranking on Google into content that lives there, keeping it active and welcoming, and moderating it into a real home for their community.

• Community intelligence. You are our eyes on the ground. Because you live in these communities, you flag what buyers are really saying and what is worth acting on, which feeds the monthly intelligence we deliver to the client.

Outside of the high-priority moments, there is no set schedule. The hours are yours.

What we're looking for

• Deep Reddit knowledge. You know the culture cold: what earns traction and what gets removed.

• A marketing background of some kind: content, social media, SEO or AEO/GEO. Agency experience is a plus.

• Real enthusiasm for the brands you would represent. The best work happens when you genuinely care about the product and the people who use it. (There are questions about this when you apply, and I read them closely.)

• You write like a person, not a marketer, and you are comfortable putting your name to a brand out in the open.

Compensation: $800 to $3,100 per client, per month, which works out to about $36 to $52 an hour.

You are paid per client, based on output rather than a flat salary. What you take home depends on how active a client's communities are in a given month: a busy client sits near the top of that range, a quieter one lower.

Location: Fully remote, wherever you are. Our clients and our team are in North America, so the 1–2 hours of meetings per week will likely occur during North American business hours.
