Red Shield Caseworker

Job Objective: Responsible for emergency assistance casework, food pantry, assisting in fund-raising and seasonal programs. 

Essential Functions: 

• Set appointments with clients as needed 
• Handle all incoming and outgoing mail 
• Answer phone, talk with clients, donors and general public in person 
• Interview clients and cover intakes on all assistance request following the guidelines 
• Assist with community food drives 
• Create and maintain all client files while adhering to confidentiality standards 
• Track referrals to other agencies 
• Complete monthly statistical report and submit by the first of each month 
• Manage the food pantry  
• Manage the school supply program 
• Other duties as assigned by County Coordinator and North KS Field Representative 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education: Minimum high school education, some post-secondary education preferred  

Experience: Business/office work, volunteer organization and supervision, casework preferred 

Certifications/Licenses: None 

Skills/Abilities:  

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and employee manuals 
• Ability to write routine reports and paperwork 
• Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients and employees in one-on-one and small group settings 
• Ability to speak and understand Spanish and English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with others 
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in basic units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals 

Supervisory Duties: Assist overseeing and directing community volunteers.  Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Salvation Army policies and applicable laws. 

Physical Requirements:  Include speaking, hearing, vision; sitting, walking, standing for extended periods of time, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, and twisting on an intermittent or occasional continuous basis; grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 50 lbs.; traveling by airplane; both outdoor and indoor navigation of settings.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel: None

Driving: Driving is required; employee must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. 

Working Conditions: Daily work is performed in a typical office environment; may require some weekend and evening work. Event work may include indoor/outdoor locations and other public venues.
