Registered Behavior Technician 3 (RBT3) – Training & Support

Hawaiʻi Behavioral Health (HBH) has an immediate opening for a Registered Behavior Technician 3 (RBT3) on the Hawaii Island (Big Island - Hilo Office).

The RBT3 is a trainer and support-focused position that helps onboard, mentor, and develop new and existing RBTs. Responsibilities may include coaching and mentoring RBT Trainees, assisting with study sessions, supporting CentralReach Institute (CRI) training, facilitating onboarding and recertification activities, and helping maintain high-quality ABA services across HBH.

This position also provides direct RBT services and substitute coverage based on program needs. Substitute cases will take priority over administrative or training time, with the exception of previously scheduled trainings.

Compensation

Job Type: Part-time, flexible scheduling
Pay: $26.00–$29.00 per hour
Expected Hours: Minimum 15 hours per week
Location: Big Island, Hawaiʻi

Job Summary

Under the direction of the ABA Program Manager, the RBT3 supports the ABA training function by providing training, mentorship, and ongoing support to ABA providers and RBT Trainees.

The RBT3 serves as a resource for new and existing RBTs, helps coordinate training activities, supports credentialing and recertification efforts, and promotes consistency and high-quality service delivery across the ABA program.

The RBT3 must also be available to provide direct RBT services and substitute coverage based on program needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide direct RBT services and substitute coverage based on ABA program needs.
• Support the onboarding and training of new RBTs and RBT Trainees.
• Coach, mentor, and provide ongoing support to RBTs throughout the training and onboarding process.
• Assist RBT Trainees with study sessions, CRI training, and preparation for RBT certification.
• Facilitate or support RBT onboarding, certification, and recertification training.
• Provide training and professional development to ABA providers as assigned.
• Support the development and implementation of training materials and resources.
• Coordinate and maintain the ABA training calendar.
• Monitor and maintain training and credentialing trackers.
• Communicate with ABA providers regarding credentialing requirements and active certification status.
• Assist with troubleshooting credentialing or training-related issues.
• Maintain accurate training records, including attendance, assessments, and completion documentation.
• Communicate with HBH staff regarding the ongoing status and progress of new hires throughout the training process.
• Collaborate with BCBAs and other clinical staff to support quality service delivery.
• Complete clinical tasks as assigned by the supervising BCBA.
• Complete administrative and program-related tasks as assigned by the Program Manager, Clinical Director, or BCBA.
• Promote adherence to HBH policies, procedures, and the BACB Ethics Code.
• Support a positive, collaborative, and professional workplace culture.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with RBTs, trainees, BCBAs, and other HBH staff.
• Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.

Required Skills & Abilities

• Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification in good standing.
• Demonstrated experience providing ABA services to children and/or individuals with autism.
• Strong understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis principles and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to model and explain ABA principles and procedures to others.
• Experience providing training, coaching, mentoring, or professional development preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to respond to work-related communications within 24 business hours.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to use technology to create and deliver training content.
• Proficiency with CentralReach (CR) and Microsoft Office.
• Ability and willingness to provide substitute coverage based on ABA program needs.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various locations to support clients and staff.
• Ability to work collaboratively with HBH staff across clinical and administrative functions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism when working with clients, families, and staff.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a master's program in a related field strongly preferred.
• Pursuing BCaBA or BCBA certification is preferred.
• 2–3 years of experience as an RBT or in a similar ABA-related capacity preferred.
• Previous experience training, mentoring, or supporting other RBTs preferred.

Physical Requirements

This position involves providing direct ABA services and may require:

• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, sitting, and other physical activity throughout the workday.
• Ability to respond quickly to client needs and safety concerns.
• Ability to safely demonstrate applicable Safety-Care techniques and physical interventions/holds when required and within the scope of training and authorization.
• Ability to perform physical duties associated with providing direct behavioral services.

• Official high school or college transcript, as applicable

• NPI number
• Current RBT Certificate
• Successful completion of required background clearances.
