Public Works Custodian 1 (Fill-in)

JOB TITLE:  Public Works Custodian 1

DEPARTMENT:  Public Works

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the custodian works to ensure offices, corridors, meeting rooms, activity spaces and other specified areas are kept in a clean and orderly condition. Work schedules vary depending on building assignment. Night shifts are required in some buildings.

Job Duties:

•    Performs detailed cleaning with various cleaning chemicals as assigned.
•    Performs and documents scheduled cleaning assignments.
•    Checks inventory of supplies and parts according to established procedures.
•    Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when dealing with staff, supervisors or the public.
•    Adheres to safety policies and procedures.
•    Reports incidents and accidents according to policy.
•    Able to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
•    Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with staff, customers and supervisors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

•    Be 18 years or older.
•    Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. 
•    One or more years’ experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the essential duties of the job

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

•    Working knowledge of safety standards and precautions related to maintenance and construction activities.
•    Ability to use the mechanical tools of the trade.
•    Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
•    Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions.
•    Ability to work cooperatively in a work crew.
•    Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions.
•    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
•    Skill in using the hand tools and equipment of the laboring trade.
•    Ability to work independently.
•    Basic first aid methods and procedures.
•    Operate a variety of small trucks skillfully and safely in all types of weather conditions.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS

•    Obtain First Aid Certification within 6 months of hire date.
•    Attend GHS Certification training within 6 months of hire date.
