Title: Part Time Visitor Experience Guide (VEG)

Job status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt  

Position reports to: Visitor Experience Managers   

Pay Rate: $20.50 per hour 

Work week: Average of 24 hours per week, ~3 shifts per week, availability required on Tuesday or Thursday, Friday, and one weekend day 

Team: Visitor Services 

Work Location: On-site 1116 108th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004

POSITION SUMMARY 

A Visitor Experience Guide (VEG) is a vital part of the Visitor Services Department and is responsible for interacting with museum visitors of all ages. A VEG provides key information and facilitates exhibits through play to enhance the visitor experience and create a memorable environment. This includes supporting the organization’s mission and values and creating a welcoming environment for all our guests. 

VEG’s are the first line of customer service and responsible for running our admissions desk, maintaining staff availability throughout the museum, and helping guests have a meaningful experience. In addition to day-to-day operations, VEGs facilitate special events and birthday parties, earning valuable customer service and classroom management experience. As a regular presence on the museum floor, our Visitor services team helps to ensure the cleanliness and safety of our facilities. This position utilizes a strong hospitality mindset, communication skills, multitasking ability, flexibility, judgment, patience, and humor.  

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES 

Visitor Services (80%) 

• Greet all visitors and respond to their needs in a positive way. 
• Perform all admissions desk duties including greeting visitors, the point-of-sale system, cash handling, membership sales, and answering phones. 
• Accurately inform visitors of museum offerings. 
• Great visitors and maintain props to keep the exhibit floor and meeting areas in optimal condition. 
• Follow safety procedures to regularly clean and sanitize exhibits. 
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the facility including but not limited to, restrooms, classroom spaces, and the exterior of the building. 
• Lead birthday parties and STEAM activities as assigned. 

Informal Education (20%) 

• Interpret and facilitate exhibits through play. 
• Lead hands-on activities for children and families on the museum floor 
• Assist with the facilitation of educational programs and events as needed. 
• Assist with training new staff as needed.  

Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Requirements

Required 

• Friendly, outgoing personality required; must enjoy working with children and families. 
• Thrive on working in a fast-paced environment with a wide variety of job responsibilities and demands. 
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and relate effectively to a wide variety of individuals. 
• Able to work both independently and in cross-functional teams to solve problems creatively. 
• Efficient computer skills 
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, work outdoors, move from ground to above shoulder, ascend/descend stairs, position self to bend, stoop, sit, push, and pull. 

Preferred 

• Bilingual applicants strongly encouraged.  
• 1-year experience in a customer service environment  
• Experience working with children ages 0-10 years in playful or educational environments. 

To serve the best interest of museum patrons, KQCM will: 

• Conduct a criminal background check on all prospective employees. 
• Require proof of immunization within thirty days of employment. 
• Require certification in Adult, Child, and Infant CPR, First Aid, and AED. Paid for by KidsQuest Children’s Museum.
