FLSA STATUS: Full Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

COMPENSATION RATE: $27.87 per hour

LOCATION: 363 W. Pershing Rd., Chicago, IL 60609

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Goodman Theatre seeks a Properties Assistant to join our production team for the 8-show season, including our annual production of A Christmas Carol.  The position will work under the supervision of the Prop Supervisor to procure props and materials and assist in prop construction for all Goodman productions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research and shop for period appropriate furniture and hand props
Assist with shopping and ordering materials for prop construction
Shop and deliver rehearsal furniture, hand props, and expendable props-- especially food items, as needed for rehearsals and performances
Respond to daily needs of rehearsals
Assist in the building of props as needed
Participate in cleaning and maintaining prop work areas and storage spaces at the scene shop and theatre.
Maintain prop equipment in those areas
Participate in all load-ins and load-outs with Properties Supervisor and crew
Work on specific projects, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years of professional props experience with knowledge of period detail
Must have a vehicle, applicable insurance, a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Able to work under pressure and respond efficiently to frequent changes during rehearsal and production
Work independently and collaboratively as a team member and maintain a positive attitude
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Proficient with Photoshop highly desirable
Experience with hand and/or machine sewing and props crafts/construction is ideal
Must be licensed to drive props and scenery vans
Be available for overtime and weekend hours on an as needed basis
Ability to work on and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. alone, or heavier objects with assistance
